Saturday morning, Danny lay on the living room floor; her study notes sprawled around her. 'Sunrise' morning news was on the TV and the hosts were talking about something or other concerning the city council. She tuned it out while she completed balancing chemistry equations, which she was still confused as to how to do because of her teacher that didn't teach. Her mother and father sat on the couch behind her, and Jaz came out of the kitchen eating his cereal. He sat down on the ground next to his sister and watched the television intently.
"What's so interesting?" Danny queried, getting distracted from her work.
Without looking at her, Jaz said, "You should probably watch this." Danny did as he asked and sat upright, observing the TV. The hostess looked nervous and excited as she welcomed a new guest.
"And now we would love to welcome to the couch, Vladimir Masters."
And the devil appeared, his twisted smile on his face, shaking the hosts' hands and taking a seat beside them.
"Oh, can't I have one week without seeing or thinking about him?" Danny growled under her breath. Maddie heard.
"Danielle! He is my brother and your uncle, and he has done very well for himself. We should be proud. Now shush." Danny rolled her eyes but stayed quiet. The headline on the news segment read 'Mayor Masters' policies for the win'.
"Now, Vlad. You have just been re-elected as the Mayor of Sydney, and you put forward many policies and promises during your campaign. Can you give us the low down of your main ideas and how you're going to turn them into a reality?" the female host asked.
"Why of course, Sam." He turned to the camera. "Ghosts have always been an odd spot in out community, and over the past few years, they have spread from Amity Park to all over the Sydney region. Ghost reports originate from Palm Beach way down to the Southern Beaches, and all the way out west to Hornsby. So, in order to address this problem, I have teamed up with a world renowned ecto-scientist from Vietnam, James Nguyen. We are planning on building small 'ghost traps' around the hotspots. And basically what they will do is attract the ghost's energy and when they get too close they get sucked in and instantaneously transported back into the Ghost Zone."
"Is it painless for the ghosts?" the male host inquired.
"Oh, haha, ghosts don't feel pain. They are merely the left over subconscious of the deceased. They are immune to pain."
Danny scoffed. "Yeah, sure, Vlad."
"Danny, shut up, you don't know what you're talking about," her mum cowed.
"Whatever you say, mum."
Her father piped up. "Your mother is right, Danny. Ghosts are merely lumps of ectoplasmic goop. They have no nerve endings, so they can't physically feel pain at all." Technically that was true, but Danny remained silent.
..."I am also going to be building new infrastructure as refuges for the homeless, funding local schools and establishing a City Council sport association for the disabled, so they too can join in the Saturday sport, which I believe is every child's rite of passage. I'll be able to do all of these through the support of the city via fundraising."
