Danny waited in the hall as the crowd of year 10 and 9 students gathered for the self-defence class. Her hands were crossed and she leaned on one hip, unaware of the sour pout on her face. She glowered at the A-listers as they entered the hall, all flicking their hair or flexing their muscles and giggling daftly. Paulina caught her stare and made a deal to stop the group and point. She made a motion curving her hands from the top of her chest to the bottom and puffed her cheeks. They all laughed, slapping their hands on their knees because that was soo hilarious. Danny gritted her teeth and squeezed her eyes shut. Then something grabbed her from behind and lifted her up. She sucked in a breath, swung around and pinned the stranger onto the floor.

"Oh, hi Sam," she said in flustered breaths. She jumped off of him and helped him to his feet. He simply laughed and dusted himself off.

"What's gotten your tail in a twist?"

"Them," Danny muttered, throwing her head in the direction of her tormentors. He leant in and gave her a hug. She sunk into it immediately and released as much tension as she could in a long exhale.

"Don't pay them any heed, you hear me? You never know; maybe one day your secret will get out and you can stand and watch all of their stupid faces drop." The halfa giggled.

"Oh, how I would wish to see that!" She pulled back and smiled at him. Sam drifted into her frosty eyes, and she into his lavender fields, unaware of Tucker watching the whole scene.

"Lovebirds," she sniggered. The couple pulled away from each other and looked away, pink blush tainting their cheeks. A teacher clapped strongly from the front of the hall and called for everyone to gather around her. It was Mrs Hillier, the head P.D.H.P.E. teacher. She was wearing her usual grey gym shorts and special school teacher sport polo, and her hair was tied up in a frizzy bun atop her head. The trio walked over, staying to the back of the group.

"Alright. How's everyone doing today? You all know the procedure for today; pair up, get the sparring mats out, and listen up to Alex." Alex stepped forward, his black belt was tied around his waist, wearing his usual thick white martial arts uniform. His platinum blonde hair was spiked up and he stood firmly with his hands behind his back.

"Hello again everyone. Let's get to it!"

With that, everyone rushed to the store room and dragged the equipment out, all fighting over who gets the best quality mats. Everyone lined up and took up the defensive stance, waiting for Alex's instructions. They did the basic warm ups; skipping, suicide runs, and then stretched. He ran them through the usual moves; jab jab - hook, uppercut uppercut - knee etc. This went on for about fifteen minutes.

"Alright. Your hips and leg muscles should be all warmed up by now. Now, I am going to teach you the move you've all been waiting for - the roundhouse kick. Raise your hand if you already know how to do it?" A few scattered people did as he asked, Sam and Tucker raising their hand disinterested, while Danny held her hand up high above her head. She didn't mean to, that's just her natural reaction. She was looking to the side, as disinterested as her friends, when Alex called her out. "Yes, you miss - was it Dana?" He beckoned her closer.

"Uh, Danny, actually," she said with a polite smile. She shuffled awkwardly over and stood by his side with her hands clasped in front of her.

"Would you like to explain to the class how to do a roundhouse kick?"

"Uh, sure," she replied with a shrug. Se turned to face the class, while Alex positioned the leg mat on his side. She scanned the hall to engage her new audience, avoiding the taunting stares of the bullies. "Alright, so, it's pretty easy, really. You get into your normal fighting stance, but stand side on to your opponent." She followed her own instructions to demonstrate. "It is most likely that you dominant leg is your strongest, which in my case is my right, so I'm going to be standing with my right foot slightly behind me, slightly angled away from your opponent. And always remember to keep your fists up to protect your face. Now, from here, you swing your right leg around, remembering to pivot you opposite hip and foot as you do so, so as to not tear any muscles or become unbalanced. You swing it all the way around your body, keeping your foot strongly pointed, and finally you hit the mat with your shin - not your ankle; that hurts. Alright, lemme do it in real time." She adjusted her stance and whacked her leg around, almost making Alex lose his footing. His face was one of astonishment and wonder.
