"i didn't leave you, stop being a drama queen" logan scoffs, both of them completely ignoring my question.

"mom cried for days because you were gone!" derek yelled.

"mom cried over everything" logan rolled his eyes and kicked at the flowers tickling his ankles.

"you were the only reason she ever cried" derek narrowed his eyes.

"you're such a child" logan waved him off. "she's the one who told me to leave"

"rriiiggghhhtt. she just told you to leave in the middle of the night without any warning to say goodbye? sorry, but that doesn't sound right"

"i left for a reason. for the same reason that i came back" logan yelled. "i came back for you, little brother"

derek scoffed. "hardly" he said just above a whisper. "you don't expect me to believe you came back for me? and also left because of me"

"fine. don't believe me" logan shrugged.

"yeah logan. i don't believe you. how do you expect me to believe anything you say?!"

"i don't! i came back to make things right"

"except what really happens is you make a move on my girl" derek pulls me to his side and away from logan.

i push away from derek and stand in the middle of them. "what the hell is going on between you two?! and why do you keep saying brother!?!!" i scream, finally glad i got their attention.

logan looks down and derek looks to his right.

"well?!!" i yell when neither of them answer me.

"logan is my older brother" derek says in a low growl, still looking off into the distance.

logan rolls his eyes. "well don't sound too excited" he shakes his head and lays down in the flowers. "i know you want to kill me but i'm still your brother" he huffs.

"shut up" derek says, squinting his eyes ad still looking at nothing in the woods.

"no derek you need to listen to me!-"

"logan! shut it!" derek yells then steps closer in the direction he is looking. he lowers his head, hunches his back and sniffs the air. logan cocks his head and jolts up, instantly sitting up and rushing to derek's side.

"you smell that?" they whisper to each other.

"smell what?" i ask, sniffing the air and walking over to them.

derek pushes me back and holds me behind him.

"you know what that is?" derek says with wide and alert eyes to logan.

"i know exactly what it is. i've been running from them ever since i left" logan sighs. "take layla, get her to the pack house. i'll try and hold them back as long as i can"

derek nods and turns to face me. "you need to trust me" he looks me in the eyes.

i shake my head. "i don't know if i can"  i feel my knees quiver and they almost buckle from the weird scent in my nose that drives my head mad. my muscles start twitching and shaking and the smell intensifies.

"derek! get her away from here now!" logan yells, getting in attack stance. he's getting ready to shift, i just know it.

derek puts his hands on my shoulders and squeezes tightly, tearing my eyes away from logan to look at him. "you need to trust me" he looks me directly in the eyes. "please layla. i need to keep you safe"

"why? what's out there?"

"do you trust me?"

i think about it for a moment.. "no. i don't" i shake my head. "i'm sorry.. but i don't"

"well you need to"

"derek!" logan growls.

"you need to shift" derek says.

"what?" my mind panics. how do i even shift?

"you need to shift now"

"DEREK! GET HER THE HELL AWAY FROM HERE!"

i take a deep breath and close my eyes. "you'll feel it. just let your body transform" derek says, letting go of my arms.

i hear clothes ripping and a loud growl/roar. my eyes bolt open and i look over to see logan has shifted into a beautiful golden wolf with sparkling black eyes laced with a shimmering saphire specks.

i close my eyes again and try to slow my breathing. "calm yourself. let it be natural"

"derek" logan growls.

"now layla!" derek yells and it actually scares me.

"i'm trying! i don't know how!"

"don't think about it" he shakes his head.

"but-"

"don't think.. just do"

"i can't" i shake my head.

"don't think!"

"i can't!" i turn to face him. derek groans and logan growls, looking out in the direction where derek was looking earlier. his growling stopped and it became silent. he sniffed the air a few times before taking a large step back to get in position ready to pounce on anyone who dared came near him.

"they're here" logan whispers.

"layla" derek whispers, holding his hand out to me. i grab it and he pulls me behind him, walking back and pushing me back away from logan and towards the edge of the cliff. "we're going to need to jump" he whispers.

"what?!" i panic and try to move around derek to find an escape.

"trust me, jumping will be a hell of a lot safer than facing those murderers" he harshly whispers, pushing me back in place.

i feel my heels fall back a little and i know if derek pushes me back any further i will fall off of the cliff and into the rocky water below. "if we jump, we'll die" i say, scared of derek's fearlessness.

"no we wont" he protests.

"yes we will" i gasp when he pushes back a little. i cling my arms around his waist and pull my body as close to his as possible, afraid to fall off. "derek, please don't"

"we dont. we have a chance to survive with jumping. if we stay.. not so much of a chance"

"what are you so afraid of?" i ask.

anwering my question, a person jumps out of a tree and lands on top of the furry golden animal i know will die fighting. not just a person.. a vampire.

i gasp when it tries to bite him. it was so close i though he was going to actually get him.. but logan swipped his claws against the pale figures chest and rips his throat open with his teeth. i gasp and bury my face in derek's neck.

"you ready to jump?" he asks.

"no" i shake my head.

he sighs. "you'll be fine, i promise.. but we need to go now"

i take a deep breath and nod. "okay"

he turns around and looks me in the eyes. "you'll be fine" he says again. he wraps his arms around me and pulls me to him, i wrap my arms around him as well so i have something to cling to.

i take another deep breath and close my eyes. "go" i say and i feel our bodies tilting sideways until our feet aren't touching the grassy meadow anymore, and we are falling to the water that will determine if we survive..
