while you read this, I suggest you listen to some music. something that had a kick, but not too distracting where you can't focus on the story. while writing I listened to all time low. they're one of my favorite bands and for this chapter I listened to 'so long, and thanks for all the booze'.

"Derek?" tears escaped my eyes, more out of confusion than anything.

"Layla" he breathes out, embracing me. "I thought you would forget about me forever" he sniffs my hair while gently stroking it.

"I need to talk to you about something" he says, pushing me away just enough where he can see my face.

"anything" I say out of cliche.

"--" he stops himself, looking down and stepping back from me. "last time I tried to tell you something you kicked me out.. and you pushed me away. even though I know it wasn't you, it still feels.." he gulps and let's him hands drop so they're not warning my skin anymore. I suddenly feel cold and empty again. I crave his touch.

A shiver runs down my spine, turning my body to ice. The emptiness grows inside and my pulse feels numb.

Out of instinct, I take his hands in mine. The warmth flows through his fingertips into my flesh and veins.

Something weird's going on.

"tell me" the words comes out shaky and nervous.

"not here, they could be listening" his eyes are promising, so I trust him.

I nod and he walks, dragging me with him. He looked every which way until we got to the familiar black truck. Unsurely, I let go of his hand and felt the cold rush again. I quickly hopped in my side and impatiently waited for him to get in his.

It seemed like he walked as slow as possible. He kept looking around for something, and I got a weird feeling in my stomach.

A faint noise pinched in my ears and I knew what the sickening pit in my stomach was. I jumped over the middle consol and opened derek's door. "get in!" I scream.

Just in time, he gets in and shuts the door hitting the lock button to stop the vampire from jumping him. The pale faced boy in black clothing bangs on the window and the sound makes me cringe. My ears have been very sensative for the last few minutes.

I squeeze my eyes shut and hold my ears with my hands to try to block the noises out. "start the car" I say loudly to Derek.

On my side of the truck, a different banging comes on the window. I open my eyes to see what it is. I'm met with a face that scares me.

Mark.

It scares me with my humanity, but without it.. he's my puppet.

Even with my ears covered I can hear his venemous words. "he can't protect you"

I gulp and am slammed back into my seat when Derek pressed his foot on the gas. He almost runs over three vampires.

When we get out of the dark parking lot, I am relieved that I don't have to deal with the blood suckers for a while. I can't face them when I have my humanity, I get too scared.

When we get far enough, Derek stops the truck on the side of the road. He turns to me and takes my hand. The warmth runs up my fingers and arms, filling my heart with a gooey feeling that makes me feel whole.

Hid big brown eyes stare at me, there's a warmth in them that makes me want to melt.. but that doesn't stop me from seeing the cold. There was an ice cold blizzard storming in him, but it was blocked to the eye by a wall of sunshine and warmth that made me not want to believe that it wasn't Derek.
