As the first Wizarding War started Bellatrix was glad to have trusted the Dark Lord. With almost no empathy, but for him alone she was able to carry out any dark deed he asked. She became respected and feared even among the rest of the Death Eaters themselves. Then one night a Death Eater named Severus Snape came with news of a prophecy that a child who would be born at the end of July, would be the one who could defeat Lord Voldemort .

Blasphemy is what it was, thought Bellatrix. Lord Voldemort seemed to believe in it deeply though. He narrowed it down to two boys who were born around the same time and proceeded to choose the one he considered to be most the threat.

Severus Snape's eyes grew wide when he heard it was the Potter boy. "But he isn't a pure-blood, surely the Longbottom boy seems to be the most threat."

Lord Voldemort stared at him. "Is this what you really think or is it because of Lily Potter?"

Severus shook his head and looked at the Dark Lord's eyes as he said, "it is only you for who I worry for, my Lord."

"Then obey me." There was something in Snape's eyes as he turned away that Bellatrix did not trust.

"My lord, don't you think you should kill them both? Just in case," she asked carefully.

"Yes, but I shall start with the Potter boy first". He split up his death eaters to watch the boys and their families to see when it would be best to strike.

Somehow word of this had reached the families of both boys and they put protections around themselves. It took sometime, but to the Dark Lord's advantage the Potters had put their trust as secret keeper in one of the Dark Lords own servants. That night LordVoldemort decided it was time to end this, Bellatrix begged him to go with him in case he needed backup, but he just laughed.

"It is only a baby, or do you think me so weak as to not be able to handle a baby?"

"No, of course not my Lord!" She said as she took a few steps back. As much as she loved him, his punishments were not something she enjoyed.

That night she was tense all over, she was in a foul mood, no one was even bothering on talking to her unless necessary. She knew there was no reason a family of three would come close to ending the most powerful wizard to date. Still, what if this baby didn't need to be grown to challenge the Dark Lord?

Rodolphus and Rabastan had just found out who the Longbottom's secret keeper was and they were deciding the best way to kidnap him when Barty Crouch Jr appeared.

"The Dark Lord is dead!" He yelled while stumbling close to them. They all stood still and looked at him as he approached Bellatrix. She slapped him on his left cheek so hard he fell to the floor.

"How dare you say something so stupid, ludicrous! And to us! You-" She was saying when Barty interrupted her.

"He is dead! Harry Potter has done the unthinkable!"

Rodolphus grabbed his shoulders and asked, "Where is the Dark Lord? And the Potter boy?" Barty didn't even finish when Bellatrix had already apparated to the Potter house.

The parents Lily and James were dead, but Lord Voldemort and the baby were gone. She was spinning around in the same spot thinking where he could be, how he could have survived and forcing herself to remember that the dark Lord had taken steps to prevent any permanent death. The others appeared and were talking, but she couldn't hear, couldn't make out anything other then her own sense of panic increasing every minute. When she couldn't take it anymore she let out a horrible painful sound, a scream that embodied the sound of anguish itself. Rodulphus grabbed her and they disapparated with the others to a cave in a far away mountain.

They remained there for days. It was the worst Bellatrix had ever felt. She kept thinking he would come to the cave and have a logical explanation for his absence. For why the towns near and far were celebrating his death.

The rest went for food and brought back the latest news, how death eaters were claiming to have been imperioused and switching sides. That was the last straw for her.

"The Longbottom aurors. We know their secret keeper and their shields will be down by now thinking they're safe. They are all we have! Baby Potter couldn't have killed him! They must have captured him...must have him locked up at the ministry..." She could hear the uncertainty of her voice, but she had to try.

They made way towards their new victims.
