Wow. I've never been this close to Ice Woman before. I stood in the shadow on a doorway, watching as Blaze Boy and Chemiwoman battled Ice Woman and Frostbite, while crowds of people rushed away from the scene. Ice Woman and Frostbite seemed to be evil, trying to kill innocent people with their powers. Ambulances and police swarmed the streets, but they kept clear of the battle. This was a superhero battle, not meant for normal mortals. Ice Woman shot a sharp icicle towards Blaze Boy, but he deflected it but super-melting it with a flame of burning fire. Suddenly, I noticed a small child cowering on the pavement underneath Frostbite, who was floating in the air and avoiding Chemiwoman's oncoming chemical attacks. The child was whimpering loudly, but the supers hadn't seen or heard her. Breathing heavily, I loaded my slingshot and crouched low, leaving the safety of the doorway and shuffling behind Ice Woman and Blaze Boy's fight. I ran quickly and reached the girl, and crouched beside her as Chemiwoman fired at Frostbite again.

"Come with me!" I yelled, trying to be heard over the firing of inferno flames, lethal icicles and chemical bullets. The girl looked up at me with frightened eyes and I lifted her onto my back, trying to stay low so that Ice Woman nor Frostbite would see me. I was almost back in the shadows when an icicle landed by my feet, missing my ankles by mere centimeters. I turned around in horror to find Ice Woman covering above me in mid-air. The girl on my back began wailing, as Ice Woman threw her hand towards us, and an icicle plummeted towards my face. I put my hand out to stop it....

It didn't hit my hand...

I opened my eyes in awe as my hand fired a wave of water up at Ice Woman, and she looked down in shock. Once I realised what I was doing I put the girl down in the shadows and stepped back into the light of the streetlamps, to find Blaze Boy landing next to me while Ice Woman and Frostbite battled Chemiwoman. I didn't know what to do or say. I just...fired water...from my hand...

"You..you're a super, Cass." Blaze Boy said, looking as shocked as I was.

"No I'm not!" I declared, looking down at my hands in shock.

"What was that then?"

"I-I-I don't know!"

"Try doing it again." Blaze Boy watched as I aimed my hands at a wall and felt a surge of energy, followed by torrents of water being fired at the wall from both of my hands.

"It should work with your feet too." Blaze Boy said, raising his voice over the battle down the street. I forced energy into my sneakered feet and suddenly I shot upwards, towards the stars and moon. I screamed as I realised the water squirting from my feet was hard to control, and I began falling back to the ground. Blaze Boy zoomed into the air and caught me, before bringing me gently back to the ground. "It's probably best to stick to your hands until you've gotten used to it!" He yelled, running off towards the battle and ushering for me to join him. I stood, dumb-founded as he rejoined the battle, firing flames at Ice Woman.

I was a super.

Maybe not a hero yet, but I had powers.

I looked over at the girl in the shadows, hunched in a ball, and down the street at the sirens of ambulances and the police.

"Run that way!" I shouted, causing the girl to get up and run as fast as her little legs could carry her. I turned back towards the battle and took a deep breath.

C'mon Cass, you can do this.
