My eyes fluttered open, and I instantly closed them again as a harsh light almost blinded me. I groaned and sat up, feeling bruises covering my body. Ouch. I was aching, like someone had punched me all over. Anyway, where was I? As I opened my eyes again and rubbed them, my thoughts suddenly came rushing back to me.
Shoot.
I looked around the room I was in. Well, it was actually a prison cell, by the looks of it. Everything was grey concrete, even the small bench I was sat on, except for one singular, very powerful light in the center of the ceiling and a large CCTV camera, probably watching my every move. I stuck my middle finger up at the camera. Haha, take that. There was a door in the corner of the room, which had a small, barred window at the top. Slowly, I stood up and stretched my muscles, before trudging over to the window. I had to stand on my tiptoes to see out, but then I realised I was in one of many prison cells, all with locked doors, signifying they were occupied. From my window, I could see a row of cell doors, each with a number. There was another masked girl looking out of the window in the opposite row, a few cells down.
"Hey!" I whispered, not wanting to get heard by the guards or whoever was roaming this part of the headquarters. The masked girl turned to look at me, and she looked terrified.
"Where am I?!" She cried, looking helpless.
"You're in ElectroNite's headquarters." I murmured in reply, watching as the girl tried to strain her neck to look down the row of cells.
"Why am I here? What's your name?"
"I'm Aqua Girl. I don't know why you're here, but I was trespassing this place anyway, so they caught me."
"Oh."
"And who are you?" I asked, curious as to who this super was.
"Gogo Girl." Huh?
"What's your power?" I asked again, unsure if she was telling a lie or not. Sure, she had a yellow mask covering her pale face, but anyone could make a mask and tell me they were a super.
"I have skates on my boots, and so I speed around San Francisco, helping people. I can't fly, but I can skate." She replied, as her head lowered from the door. She returned to the door's window holding a boot with a very technical skate wheel attached to it. Cool.
"Awesome." I muttered, as her head lowered once more as she presumably put the boot back on. I heard shuffling from the cell directly opposite me, and a moan.
"What the..." I heard a boy's voice say.
"Blaze Boy!" I yelled, my voice echoing down the hall. Oops. Too loud. But I didn't care about that, because I saw Blaze Boy's dazed face appear at the window of his cell door. His red mask was still attached to his face, but his usually perfect floppy hair was a mess.
"Cass...Aqua Girl...what the heck?" He muttered, looking like the most confused boy in the world. I mentally cursed him for using my real name. Idiot.
"We're in ElectroNite's headquarters, remember?" I said, looking over at him through the bars. "You went to go investigate some footsteps and never came back. I found a secret corridor, but I'll tell you later." I was aware that Gogo Girl was still at her window, glancing down the corridor.
"We're getting out of here. They didn't make these fire-proof." Blaze Boy exclaimed, disappearing from his window. I watched as a large flame engulfed the door of Blaze Boy's cell, and the door swung open. It was that easy then, huh?
"Stand back!" Blaze Boy shouted, running over to the door of my cell. I backed up against the wall as the heat of the flame poured over my body, and the door swung open. Before leaving the cell I shot water at the CCTV camera, smashing it.
"We need to get back to the lab!" I declared, as we began running down the corridor of cells.
"Hey!" I heard Gogo Girl yell behind us. "Let me out too! I can help you!" Blaze Boy and I halted, and he ran back to Gogo's cell. Soon, she was rolling alongside us as we ran, and we came to the end of the corridor, at a lift.
"What level are we on?" I asked, as the lift pinged to our level. We rushed inside and the elevator's buttons told us we were on 5.
"Go back down to Level 10." Blaze Boy instructed, as Gogo Girl tapped the button. I looked up and shot a jet of water at the CCTV camera in the top corner of the lift. As the elevator creaked to life, I wondered if we would actually make it out alive.
"So, what's your name?" Blaze Boy asked Gogo Girl, breaking the tense silence.
"GoGo Girl. And you?" She replied, flicking her short, brown hair out of her eyes.
"Blaze Boy."
"Are you two...?" Gogo asked, pointing between Blaze Boy and I. She was asking if we were together. Ew. No.
"No!" I exclaimed, as the lift pinged open and it revealed the rocky corridor that led to the large room we were in earlier. Blaze Boy fell silent as we made our way down the corridor, through the room, and into the next corridor, where Blaze Boy went missing.
"Yeah, I was knocked out somewhere around here." He muttered, as I pushed open the secret door leading to the laboratory.
"You guys have been on an adventure and a half." Gogo mused, skating down the hallway leading to the lab. One thing that was sticking in my mind was where were all the guards? Surely headquarters like these had a lot of guards walking around?
"You could say that." I retorted in reply, stopping in the hallway, just outside the lab. I put my finger to my lips, as muffled voices could be heard behind the hidden door. I put my ear to the wall, like earlier, and listened intently. Behind me, Gogo stood guard whilst Blaze Boy did the same.
"Load it up. That little brat earlier saw the serum." A gruff man's voice said. It sounded like the one from earlier. Then I remembered the blue liquid inside a needle, and the letter describing Chemiwoman. What was going on?
"These kids don't know what they're doing with their silly powers. Anyway, have you got the whereabouts of that Chemiwoman chick?" Another voice said. Behind me, Blaze Boy sniffed a little.
"Yeah, she's currently on 5th Street."
"Cool. How did the boss develop this serum anyway? I mean, it's not natural to turn a good guy into a bad guy." Say what?! We just discovered their little secret.
"He hired a group of nerdy scientists. I don't really know, man. It's a cool colour though." The first voice exclaimed.
"True. Right then, let's get this thing into Chemiwoman's bloodstream." Uh oh. There was the sound of shuffling, and I frantically turned around to find Gogo and Blaze Boy ready to take these dudes out. I stood my ground and aimed my hands at the door as it opened, revealing two heavily-tattooed guys, one carrying the polystyrene box. They didn't even have time to react as I began firing at them, knocking them off their feet.
"Gogo! Grab that box and keep it safe!" I yelled, as Blaze Boy began shooting flames at the guys. Gogo whizzed around the back of me and circled the men, who were trying to fight back, but failing immensely. They were kicking and trying to get the jets of water off their face. Gog ducked down and snatched the box from one of the men's grasp, before zooming into the lab and placing it on the bench. I fired a powerful jet of water at one of the men, knocking him unconscious. Blaze Boy kicked the other men in the head, and he was out for the count. I pushed open the door to the weapon room and dragged one of the men in there. Gosh, he was heavy. Blaze Boy followed me in there with the other man, and we dumped them on the ground.
"We should take some of this stuff." Blaze Boy declared, gawking at the endless amounts of guns, blades and other weapons on the walls. I nodded, not really thinking of that. I walked over to the gun wall and picked out a large gun, that probably had some sort of intricate name like B-343 or something. Next to me, Blaze Boy picked out a piston and a small but lethal blade.
"Let's check this blue stuff out."
Roger that, Blazey Boy.
