The day rolled on slowly, and each lesson felt like an eternity. Finally, last period began and I found myself slumped at a desk next to Aidan, again.
"Complete the Algebra worksheets." Miss Jones ordered, sitting down at her desk and logging onto her computer, probably to update her Facebook profile and play Candy Crush saga. I know what teachers like to do. The class began chattering. The eager nerds were scribbling away at their worksheets, trying to finish it first, whilst most of us just lounged back and talked to our neighbors. The jocks of the class began folding paper airplanes, and soon they were flying around the room. Among the mess, Aidan moved his chair closer to me.
"You looking forward to Saturday?" He asked, grinning mischievously. I glared at him as a piece of his black hair flopped over his left eye. Just like Blaze Boy's...
"Of course." I replied, sarcasm practically dripping like syrup from my voice.
"Cool." Aidan turned to his worksheet and I watched him, my feelings converging to the fact that he looked exactly like Blaze Boy. No joke. Same eye colour, same floppy hair, same smirk, same attitude. I was curious.
"What did you do last night, then?" I asked, immediately realizing I sounded creepy. Aidan looked up and smirked at me.
"Why'd you wanna know? Were ya thinking about me?" He replied, wiggling his eyebrows. I groaned.
"No, you jerk. I was trying to make civilized conversation."
"Yeah yeah."
"Seriously!"
"I played video games then did other stuff then went to bed." He said, scribbling the answer to question 1 on the sheet while he spoke.
"What time did you go to bed?" I asked, trying to act casual.
"Gosh, you're eager." Aidan retorted, flicking a strand of black hair from his eyes. "About 1 in the morning. I can't sleep that easily."
Boo yah. I recalled last night's conversation with Blaze Boy. He told me had had insomnia. The facts were lining up.
"Do you have insomnia?"
"Insomn-what? Oh, that. No, I don't." Aidan replied, making me wonder whether he was covering something up. I was about to ask another question when DJ Abbott, a jock of the class, stood up and showed his bright phone screen to the class.
"There's been another attack! This time it's Werewolf!" DJ yelled, projecting his deep voice around the room. We all fell silent. Another attack? Seriously? "14 killed, and 12 injured!"
Someone had to do something about this.
The rest of the lesson dragged on, after Miss Jones told DJ off for disrupting the class.
Finally, the bell rang and I ran to the bus, taking a seat at the front, but not next to Rachael. She sat by herself again, but I caught a glimpse of her as I left the bus at my stop. I ran up the 4 flights of stairs to the apartment, unlocked the door, and rushed into my room, grabbing my laptop and clicking the ON button. Catching my breath, I logged into the laptop as Rufus woke up on my bed, stretching and yawning.
"Hey buddy, let's get you some food." I muttered, as my laptop booted itself up. Rufus followed me as I trotted into the kitchen, grabbing his empty food bowl. I poured a large amount of dog biscuits into the bowl, before dumping it on his food mat. Then I thought, he hadn't eaten all day, I'd locked him in my room to prevent Mom from seeing him.
Oops.
Satisfied Rufus was eating, I walked back into my room and clicked Google, eager to get researching. First, I typed in Superheroes turning bad and clicked enter. A few articles about the recent events in San Fran popped up, and I thought there was nothing interesting on the page, until I found a page titled 'The Theory Behind The Bad Superheroes'. Eager to know more, I entered the page and read the article. It was basically talking about the events in my city and a few other occurrences around the world. But one thing stuck out to me.
We believe that all of the occurrences link to San Francisco's main villain, ElectroNite. He has been seen at the scene of all of this attacks by the public, media or supers. His headquarters are on the outskirts of his home city, the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge.
I had to know more. Next, I typed ElectroNite's Headquarters into Google, and I was amazed at the results. Hundreds of pages about the location of the headquarters, what the interior was like, and who worked for ElectroNite. I discovered the address of the headquarters and found an old Post-It note on my floor. Grabbing a pen, I jotted down the address in scruffy handwriting. Electric Avenue, San Francisco. I felt kind of weird that he was my biological father, so I also typed ElectroNite's family into Google, to see if anyone knew his past. Luckily the closest thing to the real deal was a site claiming he left family in San Francisco to become a villain. Phew. As I began typing 'How to get into a secure location' into Google, there was a single knock at my window.
Seriously, again?!
I leaped off my bed and over to my window, where Blaze Boy was crouching on the outside. I unlocked the window and heaved it open.
"What is it with you and this window?" I asked, as Blaze Boy lowered himself into my room. He smirked and shrugged.
"I have nothing better to do." He replied, walking over to my open laptop. "Hey, what's this? Secure location?"
"I'm investigating the superheroes going bad thing." I muttered, jumping onto my bed and turning the laptop screen back towards me. "I plan on breaking into ElectroNite's headquarters and doing some rummaging around."
"What?!" Blaze Boy cried, sitting down on my bed. "You'll get killed!"
"I know there's that risk..." I exclaimed, looking over at him. "But I need to know more. There's supers killing innocent people all over the city, and there's some link between them and ElectroNite."
Blaze Boy paused for a minute, before speaking again.
"You can't go alone. You're 100% gonna die if you go alone." He declared, gazing into my eyes.
"Are you saying I'm not capable by myself?" I asked, getting sassy. What an idiot.
"No, I'm saying I'm going with you." He mused, turning my mood back to good. I was about to launch into a rant.
"Well that's reassuring. When should we do this thing, then?"
"Tonight."
"But it's a school night!" I whined, aware that I was grumpy on small hours of sleep.
"Oh I'm sowwy, does little baby Cass have to be in bed by 7?" Blaze Boy said, putting on a baby voice. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Fine! Tonight it is."
"See you at the window, Aqua Girl."
