"Well King Midas put his hands on me again
He said "one day I'd realize why I don't have any friends"
I find myself alone at night
Unless I'm having sex
But he can make me golden if I just show some respect"
I think the King Midas she was referring to was someone I'm like high school who was really popular and dated her for kicks or something, and he can make her popular if she basically becomes his slave.
"But I don't let him touch me anymore
I said "I'm not something to butter up
And taste when you get bored
'Cause I have spent too many nights on dirty bathroom floors
To find some peace and quiet right behind a wooden door"
I think she broke up with the guy at this point because she was tired of being treated like shit.
"He said "please don't go away"
I said "it's too late"...
He said "please don't go away"
I said "it's too late"
He begs her to not leave him because he low-key likes her but he treats her like shit for his friends to laugh at him.
"And now I can't stop thinking,
That I almost gave you everything
And now the whole thing's finished and I can't stop wishing
That I never gave you anything"
Now after she leaves for good she happy but angry that she gave herself away to him.
"You wrote 100 letters just for me
And I find them in my closet in the pockets of my jeans
Now I'm constantly reminded of the time I was 19
Every single one's forgotten in a laundromat machine"
Either he wrote 100 letters after they broke up or when they were dating still, either way its been months or years since they were together and she still finds the letters as a reminder of the times she had with him.
"And now the whole thing's finished and I can't stop wishing
That I never gave you anything...."
After she finds the last Letter, she comes back to that state of sadness that she gave herself to him.
