I woke up to an empty bed. I rubbed my eyes using the palm of my hands. I looked around the room to see if I saw Shawn, but he was nowhere in sight. I threw the warm covers off of me and swung my feet over the bed before standing up on the carpeted floor. I yawned as I walked into the kitchen.

"Good morning." I looked up to see shawn sitting on a stool with a coffee cup in his hand.

"Morning, where's mom and dad?" I asked forcing my eyebrows together in confusion.

"Oh, your dad texted me saying that they wouldn't be home until tonight. Apparently there was a huge snow storm last night, and it's not safe to drive." Shawn explained. I nodded, I felt slightly disappointed that I wouldn't see them until tonight, but even more disappointed because I didn't want things to be awkward with Shawn.

"Nice shirt." Shawn said looking me up and down. I blushed and looked down at the pink long sleeve shirt. The smell of Shawn's cologne filled my nose when I looked down at it. "Wonder where you stole that one from." Shawn smirked. I laughed and walked over to the coffee maker. I poured the hot brown liquid into the red mug before adding sugar and hazelnut creamer. I used the metal spoon to stir the sweeteners into the dark coffee.

"Guess we aren't going hiking." I said turning around to see Shawn.

"To be honest I'm kind of relieved, I mean we would of been freezing our asses off." Shawn said causing me to laugh.

"True." I agreed.

"What are we going to do in a cabin for 8 hours?" Shawn asked running his fingers through his hair.

"Candy land!" I said excitedly. Shawn looked at me and confused.

"My parents always bring some type of board game whenever we stay somewhere, and luckily it's a game we both like." I said before running up to their room to get the game. I found the board game in a bag beside my mom's. I pulled the game out of the bag. A white document fell out of the bag. I bent down to pick it up.

Divorce

The papers fell out of my hands when I read that word.

"Liz?" Shawn asked walking into the room. I stood there in shock looking down at the papers.

"Liz what's wrong?" Shawn asked running over to me. He gripped onto my arms gently trying to meet my eyes. His eyes followed my gaze to see the papers. He picked them up and scanned over the papers.

"Oh Elizabeth," he said bringing me into a hug. I didn't hug back, I just stood there still in shock. My parents were getting a divorce.
