Kaz strode into the house, running a hand through his hair and trying, but failing, to suppress his smile. He could still feel Inej's soft skin on his mouth, still feel the shadow of her. He walked into the living room, only to find Per Haskell lounging on the sofa, watching a soap opera. Kaz slid into a chair.
"What kind of shit is this? Who watches this and thinks it's good?" asked Per Haskell, but Kaz could see the tissues littering the floor and smirked. The old man looked up at him from the white couch, his blue eyes veined red.
"You do, Haskell." The phone rang loudly and Kaz stood, limping into the kitchen. He took the phone from its holder on the wall, pressing it to his ear.
"Hello, this is Kaz Brekker."
"Kaz? Oh, hello darling. This is Mrs. Ghafa. I don't know where Inej is, she hasn't come home. Do you know where she is?" Kaz felt his heart lurch.
"I just dropped her off at your house about ten minutes ago. I saw her go inside," Kaz assured the woman. There was no way he'd forgotten that.
"She's nowhere in the house. We got home with donuts for her, but she wasn't here. There's only a note."
"What does it say?"
"Gone out. Be back soon. But it doesn't look like Inej's writing." Kaz held the phone to his chest and called his stepfather into the room.
"Hello Ms. Ghafa. How are you?" Kaz took out his phone and went into the chat with Jesper, Matthias, Nina, and Inej.
Kaz: Has anyone seen Inej?
Nina: No. You and her went out. ;)
Jesper: I'm adding Wylan to the chat.
*Wylan added*
Wylan: You mean the dark skinned girl at the lunch table? No.
Nina: Why do you ask?
Kaz: Her mum just called and asked if I'd seen her. Inej is gone.
Nina: She's probably gone out.
Jesper: With who besides us?
Kaz: Guys. This is serious. Get your shit together.
Nina: Watch your language young man! And awww, you care about her!
Kaz: NINA
Matthias: I don't know where she is
Wylan: Who is everyone?
Matthias: I'm Matthias
Nina: Nina!
Jesper: The handsomest boy in school
Kaz: EVERYONE! INEJ IS MISSING! DO NONE OF YOU CARE?
Matthias: Has someone replaced the demjin? He never talks this much, or shows this much emotion. I'm scared ;)
Kaz: Bastard
Jesper: I think you're right Matthias. Someone needs to go over and shoot this impostor Kaz. I volunteer
Nina: I HAVE to get away from my dad. I volunteer!
Matthias: You're all crazy. Shut up and go to sleep. All of you.
Jesper: I don't think Kaz sleeps.
Wylan: She'll be fine. See you all tomorrow.
Nina: Bye!
Jepser: Bye
Matthias: Bye
Kaz: I hate you all
