"This is for your own good." Akamai tells me.
We had arrived at the Hilo International Airport, and I was about to go through security.
I give him a yellow smile.
"It's time." He says, checking the time on the big clock.
"Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much." I tell him.
"No need to thank me. You know how much you, and your sister both mean to me." He says with a bright smile on his face.
A small tear streams down his left cheek. I know he has feelings for Kai. Since they were young they used to be best friends. I guess Kai decided to keep it that way. Akamai was a handsome man. He had long, thin, straight black hair that fit his head like a coconut. His eyes were a dark emerald, which sparkled each time they made contact with Kai. He was very well built, and boy was he strong. Many of the girls in our island would die to marry Akamai, but it would all be in vain. His heart was completely dominated by my sister, and who could blame him?
Kai was, in my opinion, the most beautiful young woman I had ever seen. She had beautiful long, straight, brunette hair that fell a couple of inches below her waist. Her skin was a flawless shade of olive, and her eyes were like mine, a dark shade of yellow and green. Most people said we looked very much alike. The only difference was our hair. While hers was straight, mine was a tad bit shorter, wavy and I was naturally born with streaks of blonde in my hair.
I give Akamai a tight hug and head off towards security as fast as I can to avoid him from seeing my tears.
"This is the final boarding call for passenger Plumeria Leilani booked on flight 372A to Los Angeles, California. Please proceed to gate 3 immediately. The final checks are being completed and the captain will order for the doors of the aircraft to close in approximately five minutes time. I repeat. This is the final boarding call for Plumeria Leilani. Thank you." Announced a voice through the intercom.
I was late.
I ran as fast as I could to the gate. I meet the flight attendant right before she starts leaving to board the plane.
"Wait!" I exclaim.
"Miss Leilani?" She asks.
"Yes! I'm sorry I'm late." I explain
"Yes, yes. I know. Now let's hurry." She says annoyed.
She scans my boarding ticket and motions me towards the ramp leading to the plane. I follow her.
"Aren't you a bit young to be traveling by yourself?" She asks me.
"I guess," I shrug.
"Why are you by yourself?" She asks, picking up her walking pace.
"I-I honestly don't know." I reply, struggling to catch my breath.
She raises one of her perfectly shaped brows and gives me a confused look. I give her an embarrassed smile.
We finally arrive to the entrance of the plane and I shuffle down the tight aisles looking for my assigned seat.
"23F... 23F..." I whisper silently to myself, searching down each row.
Great. I have the last row. At least I get all three seats for myself.
I sit down in the seat nearest to the window. I watch as the plane takes off into the vibrant sky, full of intense hues of pink and orange.
I plug my ears with my head phones and check the time right before falling asleep.
