I let everything out.
Hailey showed no emotion.
Her eyes just widen more and more. Word by word.
Once I had everything out I felt empty.
I knew she wouldn't understand.
I couldn't even understand it myself.
I grabbed my pillow, shoving my face in it.
I tried to scream.
Nothing came out.
I was hollow.
She tried to speak but failed. I know she didn't see it coming. Neither did I.
"Look Andrea, it's not common for students and teachers to have any sort of romantic affiliation."
"It's not that it's not common Hailey. You left out the part that it's illegal."
"Well good that you already know that. I thought I was going to have to break it to ya. I'm sorry kiddo."
"It doesn't matter." I shrug it off like it wasn't bugging me.
Like it wasn't hurting my heart deep inside.
Like he didn't matter.
But it was bugging me.
It was hurting my heart deep inside.
And boy, does he matter.
Hailey can sense it too.
She scoots over closer and pulls my head to her lap and plays with my hair.
"I'm always here for you kiddo. Just never forget that. I want you to always trust me. Always tell me what's bugging ya. I'm not here to judge you. I'm here to help you."
"I know. You're one of the few people who I can actually trust."
"I'm glad. Get some rest kiddo." She planted a kiss on my forehead.
"Night." I said.
I waited a while to make sure Hailey went to her room.
I tiptoed and locked my bedroom door.
I opened my window and slid out to the ledge.
I then reached for the nearest branch of the tree in front of me, leaping without hesitance.
I gradually find my way down the tree and reach solid ground.
I start running down the street until I'm out of the neighborhood.
I put in the address given to me in the note into my phone's GPS.
It's not that far from here.
12 minutes walking.
I pick up my pace and jog along the side of the road.
