I look up, finding a pair of hazel eyes meeting mine.
"Are you okay?" The voice says.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I lie.
I could feel my ribcage throbbing underneath me, meeting the cold floor.
"Here, let me help you up." The boy says, smiling as he reaches out his hand towards me.
I take his hand.
"Ethan! Are you seriously touching that freak?" Meredith announces, loud enough so the whole school could hear.
He ignores her and pulls me up.
"Come on, I'll walk you to your class." He says, pulling me in closer to him, wrapping his arm around me.
"Ethan!" Meredith screams.
He ignores her and we head down the hall.
"I'll call you later, babe!" She yells.
"I'm sorry she treated you like that," he frowns.
"Oh, no worries. It was just an accident."
"I'm Ethan by the way. What's your name?"
"I'm Andrea."
"Andrea... I like that." He chuckles, pulling me closer.
I wince.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you!" he loosens his arms, still holding me close.
"You're fine, it's noting major." I defend.
"So, what's your next class?"
"Math," I roll my eyes.
"Me too! What teacher?" He smiles.
"I don't know, it sounds like lollipop." I shrug
"Mr.Lawley?" He says excitedly.
"Yes, that's it!" we laugh.
"That's awesome! I've never been so excited to go to math class in my life." He blushes.
"Me neither." I gently pull closer into him.
Being held closely to Ethan makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. I feel peace. I feel safe. Like nothing could ever hurt me anymore.
We arrive into Mr. Lawley's class and it's packed. Many pairs of eyes are staring at me, and people start to whisper. They all keep staring until I finally figure out what they're looking at.
Ethan's hand clutched into mine.
I pull my hand immediately from his and walk towards the back of the room. He follows me and sits beside me to my right. I blush and look down at my hands. I then notice a familiar, yet not so familiar smile from someone sitting next to me to my left. I then tilt my head slightly to meet the same pair of hazel eyes.
I jump in shock.
"There's two of you!" I shout, looking back and forth to my right and left.
They just laugh at me, and soon the whole class joins in.
"Alright, alright settle down!" Says a tall young man, dressed nicely.
He walks towards his desk and smiles at me.
Wooooow, I really like math now.
"Today, I would like to welcome our new student Miss Andrea Russett."
I smile, blushing a little.
"Today we will start off with a little equation pop quiz." He adds.
"Umm, Mr. Lawley?" says the similar Ethan.
"Yes, Mr. Dolan?"
"Just a thought here, don't you find it a bit... unfair, for us to take a pop quiz today? I mean think of this poor girl. She just arrived to this school and is already forced to go through the tortures of ... 'Le Pop Quiz'" He finishes adding a french accent to 'Le Pop Quiz'.
Mr Lawley chuckles.
"As a matter of fact, Mr. Dolan, I find it very much fair, or should I say appropriate, to give out 'Le Pop Quiz'." He mimics.
"This way I can know what Miss Russett is familiar with already, to ensure she doesn't need any additional tutoring. Although I thank you, for your concerns." He adds.
Mr. Lawley passes out the quiz.
I scan the sheet of paper and my brain fails to assist me.
"Crap!" I whisper to myself.
"Need help?" Whispers the similar Ethan.
"No thanks." I answer
He chuckles and starts filling out his paper like a machine.
"I'm Grayson, by the way." He says after finishing the quiz.
I'm still stuck on number 1.
"Nice to meet you Grayson, but right now isn't the best time for introductions."
"Is there something wrong?" announces Mr. Lawley from the front of the room.
I look up and give him an embarrassed smile.
"No sir." I simply say.
I turn to Grayson and give him a death glare.
He laughs and so does Ethan.
The bell rings and I have nothing written on the paper. That is, no answers. I scribbled in just about every corner of that paper.
