Broken - Part 15

I wake up to the smell of tomato soup.

Hailey walks in with a tray.

"Hey, how are you feeling kiddo?" She asks, putting down the tray on the corner of the bed.

"Fine, just took a much needed nap." I smile.

Ethan is still beside me and I can feel his heartbeat.

"I made you some grilled cheese and some homemade tomato soup." She smiled and helped me sit up so I could eat.

"Mmmm, it smells and looks so good." I say looking down at the tray.

It had a bowl of tomato soup, 2 grilled cheese sandwiches, orange juice, and a fruit salad.

"Is that food?" Ethan says.

Hailey and I laugh.

"I made it for the both of you, so don't worry." Hailey says.

Ethan jumped up and sat up straight ready eat.

He gave me the biggest smile in the world.

"I'm going to go shower. Ethan do you mind staying with her for a couple minutes? I don't want her to be alone." Hailey said.

"Sure thing! I'll stay up all night if need be!" He said.

"Thank you." She said and she left the room.

I leaned my head on his shoulder and grabbed a sandwich.

"Do you feel better?" He asks.

"Yeah, a bit dizzy tho." I say.

I hear talking downstairs.

"Hey, I'll be right back." I jump up from the bed.

"Where are you going?" Ethan asks in worry.

"To the bathroom, Dolan. May I?" I sass.

"Yes ma'am... sorry." He says.

I laugh.

I walk out of my room and down the hallway towards the stair rail.

I can hear Hailey talking to someone on the phone.

"Yes Kai, she's fine now. I put her to rest and she's eating right now as we speak."

Kai.

"Of course I haven't told her anything Kai! Who do you take me for?"

My eyes widen.

"She won't know until it's time."

Time?

"Of course she doesn't suspect anything. Just like you said, she would be too busy with things teenagers worry about. She's attending school with hard classes, she's already met two very cute guys who won't leave her side, and she's going to do soccer. Trust me, her mind is buuuuusy."

"Kai, I honestly don't think you should keep hiding this from her. She deserves to know."

"SHE'S NOT A LITTLE KID ANYMORE KAI! SHE SHOULD KNOW!"

I couldn't take it anymore.

I ran back to my room and slammed the door shut and locked it.

I dropped down to the floor, sobbing.

My fists, bagging against the door.

My heart was pounding

Racing.

Ethan runs up to me and holds me.

"ANDREA WHAT HAPPENED?" He asked.

My heart was hurting too much for me to answer.

I pulled myself closer into his strong arms.

I was weak.

I was broken.
