Charlotte's POV
I'm getting released from the hospital, and I couldn't be more excited! The doctors and nurses have worked with me, and I am now able to walk around all by myself. Since I can walk now, I decided to check on Skye. I opened the door to her room to find Elliot resting his head on the edge of Skye's bed. You could hear him snoring softly. I carefully picked up a chair and sat it next to Elliot. I sat down and stared at Skye as I contemplated Elliot's offer to live with him.
This could be an opportunity to start fresh which definitely sounds like a good idea to me. Skye and Elliot both seem like really nice people, and I might actually enjoy living with them. I wouldn't have to worry about so many things like I did when I lived with my dad. They wouldn't hurt me like he did. I think I'm going to stay with them. A smile formed on my face as I thought this. I loved the idea of being surrounded by love instead of hate.
I jumped as I heard the sound of a phone start to ring. This caused Elliot to slowly raise up off the bed. Then he nearly fell off of the chair because he didn't realize I had been sitting next to him.
"Sorry," I said to him as he gave me a quick smile before answering his phone.
Right when he got off the phone, a huge smile formed on his lips. The next thing he told me had been the best news I've received this whole week.
"They caught him! They caught Jackson!" A huge relief washed over me as he said those words. It was finally over.
Apparently, the owner of the motel cracked and told the police everything they needed to know. They are currently keeping him at the County Jail. Elliot decided that he was going to go over there and speak to Jackson. While he did that, I decided to head back to my hospital room. I laid down in my bed for a while until I heard the door open. Two girls entered my room and introduced themselves as Lily and Rebecca. Lily asked me if I knew where Elliot went.
"He went to the County Jail. They caught Jackson," I told them.
"Okay, the nurse just told us Skye wouldn't be waking up till tomorrow so we're going to head home. Could you tell him that's where we went?" Rebecca asked me.
"Yeah," I said.
"Okay, thank you!" Lily said exiting the room as Rebecca followed.
As the day slowly turned to night, Elliot came back to my room.
"Two girls named Lily and Rebecca told me to tell you they went home," I said as he walked through the door.
"Okay, thanks for letting me know," He said smiling.
"No problem," I said.
We talked for a long time about what happened at the County Jail. Apparently, Jackson told Elliot that he enjoyed every minute of it and he regrets nothing. Elliot nearly punched him in the face but a guard came in and told him that the police wanted to see him. They then told Elliot that Jackson was going to be locked away for a long time. We talked for hours about random things until finally, he decided to head back to Skye's room.
The last time I saw on the clock was 11:00 p.m., and I was growing very tired very quickly. Soon, my eyelids became heavy, and I drifted off into a very deep sleep. A deep sleep that only a nightmare could wake me up.
I woke up to the sound of men screaming. I was back in my room at my old house with my father. The wooden floor was so old, that I was surprised that the floorboards didn't fall off when I stepped on them. The wall paper had started to peel off the walls causing the room to look very trashy. I heard a loud bang coming from downstairs. I hated nights like this. My dad had invited his drinking friends over which usually means that they will come up here and harass me tonight.
I hope it's not one of those nights at least but it sounds like it. I laid back in my bed and tried to fall asleep but it was no use. A while later, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Then the footsteps were outside my door, and I knew that they were about to come in here. They kicked open the locked door making a loud banging noise causing me to wake up. The men forcefully brought me downstairs and tied me to the chair. I watched as they took some boiled water from out of the pot and dumped it all over my back. I screamed out in pain hoping someone would save me.
No one ever came.
I woke up to someone shaking me. I don't know who it was because right when I woke up I buried my head deep into their shoulder as I cried for who knows how long. I was so scared that if I let go of the person I would look around and be back in the old, disgusting room. I was holding on for dear life. After my crying ceased, I was able to look at the person comforting me. It was Elliot.
"Are you okay?" He asked with a concerned look on his face.
"Yeah," I said quietly.
"Then why were you crying?" He asked as a frown formed on his lips.
"It was just a nightmare," I said as tears rolled down my cheeks.
"I'm going to stay here till you fall asleep. That way if you have any more nightmares I'll be right here," He said smiling.
He got off the bed and pulled up a chair to the side of the bed. He sat there messing on his phone as I tried to fall back asleep. I watched the minutes go by on the clock until I finally fell asleep.
This time, I didn't have any nightmares at all.
