When We Were Young : Part 3

Chapter 3

"They split up" I said looking at Cora's and Boyd's footprints in the mud of the woods. We tracked them from the bank to the woods with their scent then used their footprints until we all saw that they split up. "I'll follow Cora's, Scott get Boyd's" I said "Derek I think you should stay to see if they circle back, I think our best bet is to split up" When no one answered I looked up and saw Derek and Scott looking at me. 

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing" Scott said "You're just really good at this" 

I smiled at him, "I'm a cop Scott, searching for missing people happens to be an everyday thing now" Scott went to follow Boyd but Derek stopped me from going after Cora's. I looked at him waiting for him to explain why he stopped me. 

"As soon as you find her call me so I can help" Derek said. With a nod I went off. I searched for about twenty minutes and lost her tracks. I was getting ready to head back when my phone rang. Derek's name was flashing on the screen.

"Hey" I answered.

"You find her?" He asked. 

"No, I lost her footprints" I said. 

"Head back, Scott said we should stick together, they are too strong and too fast for one person to handle" He said. 

"I'm on my way" I said and hung up. Once we all met up at the preserve we started running towards their scents and stopped in an opening. We all saw fresh footprints in the mud. In the mud was both Boyd's and Cora's footprint. 

"Is it them?" Scott asked.

"looks like they decided to stick together, after all." Derek said. 

"Is that going to make it easier or harder to catch them?" Scott asked. 

"I don't know" Derek answered. I gotta respect his honesty.

"Guys" Scott said walking closer to the two of us. "I saw Boyd try to rip two little kids apart" I looked at him in shock. Those poor kids are probably traumatized. "Are they going to do that to everyone they find?"

"Everyone and anyone" Derek said and walked in the direction of the footprints. I went to catch up with Derek when I heard a sound off in the distance. It was the sound of a girl screaming. With wide eyes looking at Derek we both ran off in the direction it was coming from. Once I found the girl who was calling out for somebody named Emily I saw Cora getting ready to attack her. I ran towards Cora and tackled her to the ground. She pushed me off of her with so much force the my back collided with a tree behind me. I was getting ready to attack her again when Isaac came out of no where and punched her in the face knocking her to the ground. Thinking she was unconscious Issac let his guard down only for her to also throw him into a tree. Next it was Scott who side kicked her to the ground. Then there was Derek, both of them snarled at each other then Cora realized she was outmatched and ran off leaving Derek to follow her. 

"Are you okay?" I asked the girl she was freaked out, rightly so.

"What" She asked in shock. 

"You need to get out of the woods as fast as you can" Scott said. Me not wanting her to go alone in case Boyd was still close decided I should probably walk with her. I turned to Scott. 

"I'm going to walk her out, I'll be back" then he nodded and went off after Cora. I walked up to the girl and put my hand on her shoulder. 

"You'll be fine, let me get you out of here" I said to her. Her head shoot up at me with wide eyes. 

"I'm not leaving without Emily" She said. 

"Where is she?" I asked her getting impatient. 

"I don't know she got freaked out by all these bugs in then she ran off, it's not like her to disappear like that" She said.
