Lily's POV:
"Please don't go." I plead to a wet-eyed Jen. I cannot be left alone. What is he comes back? These thoughts have caused my small amount of sanity left to flee my body. It feels like I have a fire growing inside of me, solely made of fear. When someone is with me, like Jen is now, the fire is being extinguished by the small feeling of being protected. When I am alone, it burns out of control and destroys anything in its wake.
'Lily I need to pee." Jen pleads. As much as she needs to go I need her here more. She's been here all night, up with me listening to my emotions and their phrases as they are shown for the first time in my life.
"Promise you'll come right back?" I need to know that all she's doing is leaving the room, finding the washroom, and coming back as soon as she finishes in there.
"I promise. Please don't worry. I'll be right back." She stands from the chair she had been on for the last hour. I feel the fire growing with every muscle she moves. She grabs her purse. Why would she need her damn purse if shes coming right back.
"Your lying." I mutter. She stares at me giving me a silent 'are you serious'. I am serious. Too serious
"You a liar!" I shreik. She walks towards the side of my bed, with purse around her shoulder. She touches my arm and I feel some tension being released. For once in a lifetime I feel protected. I have never had anyone like Jen before. I'm afraid after everything she's heard over the last night shes gunna pick up and leave. She can't.
'Lily please. I promised you I would come back. Have I ever broken a promise to you?" She asks, staring into my eyes. Under her eyes are purple from lack of sleep, she yawns. I feel terrible for keeping her up. She could fall asleep at any minute. She had never broken a promise to me, yet she hasn't solidly promised me anything.
"okay." I let out a deep breath from within. Her touch is released and wood is thrown into the fire, rendering it uncontrollable when she exits the room, closing the door on her way out. Tears flow from my eyes as memories of me and John on our engagement day flashes through my mind. I had no idea it was possible for a man to make a woman feel this way. I thought John was different.
Even though John had never opened up about his past to me I could have done something to change him. Somehow in a sense I feel as if his transformation from that day he proposed to me at my family's dinner table to the man I felt render me unconscious with the burning flick of his hand against my face.
Jen's POV:
As I close the door behind me worry courses through my veins mixed with confusion and fatique. I stand leaning against the pale white door, listening to Lily's sobs before I break free and walk towards the washroom. I try and rush so I can get back to Lily as soon as possible. I can't believe everything she had told me.
I can't believe this all started when John hit her. It was only once, thats all she told me. Still none-the-less, he did touch her and that is not okay. I check my phone and it is almost nine am. I havn't heard from David, maybe an update from him will cheer Lily up.
When I walk into the bathroom, the first thing I do is look at myself in the mirror. I look like death. Under my eyes are a light shade of purple and my pupils have dialated a large length. I pull out several make-up items and scatter then around the small sink are in front of me. Halfway through me covering up my eyes with a thick layer of make-up, the door opens. A woman with long black hair walks in, crying.
"What's wrong?" I ask, without thinking. Everything that has just happened with Lily has changed my views on the emotionally scarred. She stares at me, her eyes flood with water as tears for mat their ends and fall of their face.
"Nothing. I'm okay." She walks into one of the stalls behind me.
"You can tell me you know. I have no one else to tell if you decide to." The door locks and I return to my makeup. Moments later it opens again.
"Do you have a tampon?" She asks. I dig through my purse and give her one of the three pads I have stored in case for an emergency.
"Thanks" She almost whispers. She has calmed down quite a lot. As I finish applying my blush, she comes out and behind to wash her hands. I can't help but stare.
"I'm Carla." She says.
"Sorry for my rudeness, my mom died three days ago so I came her for closure." She sniffles as I yawn.
"It wasn't a good idea." She forces a laugh.
"Well I'm Jen." I put my hand out for her to shake. Without drying it she reaches for mine with both hands.
"Jen. I'll see yous around Jen." And with that she leaves. Before I fallow, my phone is out and David's name appears on the screen.
"Hey." He says.
"Hi. What's going on? You've been gone all night!"
"Long story." He lets out a deep breath.
"When I got to her apartment, the door was open and it was spotless." What the hell? It was a mess the last time I was there.
"What?" I say, clueless. True to the word. Maybe they have a maintenance group that cleans the apartments once a week?
"Her parents were there. Well they are there. There staying there." What? Her parents? How could they have found out Lily was here?
"Her mom said the hospital called her because she was the only name under Lily's medical contacts." Oh. That makes more sense.
"Did you get the clothes?" I ask. She really needs to change. Maybe fresh pair of clothes, fresh attitude?
"I told them everything. Down to the last detail Jen. They were so upset." His tone shifts to harsh.
"What do you mean everything?" I ask.
"About the elevator, John, everything. Apparently Lily broke up with John and Lily's mom gave him her address so he could go see her. This sounds really off to me." It makes sense. John didn't hit Lily once, well maybe he did but I doubt it. Lily was trying to escape- trying for a fresh start. But she couldn't get one.
"David. I'm going to tell you something. I want you to promise me you will not say anything, or get angry or anything! Do you understand?" I speak slowly, saying every syllabel in two second intervals. This is serious, and if he doesn't oblige I don't know what will happen. But he needs to know.
"Wait, before you do- John called." He called her house?
"What did he say." I throw my arms up in frustration.
"He talked to her mom, he said he was on the next flight out to Connecticut." What? He's leaving?
"He said he was leaving late last night." He's already gone. I need to tell Lily, this is amazing news. The person who causes her all her fears, her issues, is now gone. He's out of the picture now, it could be for long or it could be until tomorrow but this is a good thing.
"This is great!" I yell.
"Uhh ok. So what is it you wanted to tell me?" Shit. Since John is out of the picture, I should keep my new found knowledge to myself and play detective for a while.
"Nothing. I'll tell you when I see you." I smile. I feel somewhat guilty for not telling David but its Lily who needs to tell him if she wants him to know. I storm out of the washroom and run back to Lily's room on the other end of the third floor. I hope this makes her better, for now.
