Chapter 11 : Apology
The sky was a deep gold, with pink streaked through it like Helios himself was flying across, leaving the trail. The sun was slowly making its way past the horizon, letting the moon slowly take reign.
The soft wind blowing on my face, cooling my skin and rising excitement. My carefully decorated hair had escaped tendrils that were tickling the slope of my neck, while my most dazzling dress was billowing against my legs. My breathing was coming in faster and faster as I watched my prince, my saviour, climbing the endless wall towards my room window, crying out promises of our life together. I clutched my heart, oh, finally, my life-long dream will finally come true. I waited for this moment far too long.
My prince finally reached my window and my breathing stopped. It was the most handsomest man I've ever seen, and he was here for me. His glistening emerald eyes, and his golden hair strikingly similar to the heavenly colors of the sky. My eyes began blurring as his lips began tilting in a heart-warming smile, his eyes expressing love that words cannot. He reached for my hand and brought it up to his lips as he kissed every finger before he kissed my knuckles. Tears trailed my cheeks, as I smiled widely.
Finally. Finally he's here.
To take me far, far, far away.
He glanced up at me and my heart beat out of its rhythm as his eyes began darkening attractively as he leaned closer and closer. I held my breath, as my eyes fluttered close. Waiting for the moment his lips would meet mine and I would discover what it felt like to be kissed for the first time ever... My heart was out of control, and my breathing wanted to come out in gasps but I held it in excitement, nervousness and happiness.
However his lips did not meet mine.
Cold water splashed all over me, and I jumped out of bed gasping for air. I was on the ground as I reigned in my hitched breathing, calming myself, rage was making my body tremble and I knew if I glanced up I might not be able to hold it in.
"Good morning Ms. Woods!" I pinched my eyes closed as I heard his deep and malicious voice. I clenched my jaw, and cleared my face of all emotion. I slowly opened them to glance up at the fearsome man looming over me with a expectant expression. He glanced towards the window where the sun was well risen, dawn having been and gone and it was a clear blue. He looked at me with an unreadable expression, "I reckon you had a very good sleep?"
I wanted to cry out. To cry out and scream and thrash, why did the dream have to be a dream, why could it not be reality? Where is my prince? Why is he not coming to rescue me from this looming danger of a man? However, instead, I hung my head. Truth was, I had no sleep at all.
He had made me work all day after putting me in my place. Roughly teaching me all I had to do. He had brought in another desk solely for me into his study so that I could be in his sight at all times. I was to sort all of the scrolls and letter and important notices and requests from the kingdom. I was to organize and recite to him all he had to do the dawn next. I had to prepare everything the day before. He stood hovering over me, watching me like a hawk as I hesitantly worked, careful of not making any mistakes. He had a long wooden stick at hand, and every time I made an error, his stick would whip my hand. I had learned my lesson quick, and with vigilant eyes carefully picked out what he demanded of. My hand was covered in red welts, and I could feel my cheek bruising.
He sent me to my chambers curtly, and coldly when it was near midnight. I was weary, and nearly falling from exhaustion, but my eyes did not close. I repeated the occurances over and over in my head, they haunted me, plaguing me. Sleep did not come to me as I craddled my hands to my chest, until my own mind had shut down few minutes before dawn in anger at its repeating disturbing thoughts.
