Chapter 13 : Waitin' too Long
"Ms Woods?"
My heart was going to explode if it were to continue beating the way it was. His deep voice was enough to send me into trembles.
I slowly turned around, horror making goosebumps raise all over my skin. Did he find out I had been in the passage? Did he hear me? Does he know that I heard? Is he going to hurt me? I took a step back at the thought.
Prince Edmund stood in the doorway, with his head held high...and bare chested. I was shocked, and I knew my eyes were wide.
"Prince Edmund!" I choked as I quickly ripped my gaze away, my cheeks heating. Confusion filled my head, and images of the men of higher class back home, trying to take advantage of me.
"Ms Woods..." I heard his voice hesitate, and I repeated, panicked, in my head over and over again, why is he here? "I had been about to go look for Madam Alice, but the wound is quickly taking my energy away," at this my gaze snapped up at him again, and this time I really did look up at him. While I took in his sight with a look of horror, he continued talking, his voice strained and pained, "And I saw that your door was wide open and in this state, I came to you." There was a large wound on the side of his torso, and he struggled to stop the blood flow with a bloodied rag. I gasped and for a moment, worry took over me and fear was slightly forgotten as I hesitantly rushed towards him,
"How did this happen?" I asked, looking at the wound from afar. I was eyeing it and trying to remember all that mother had taught me when from the corner of my eye it looked as if Prince Edmund was actually smiling amusingly, although it was strained. My eyes snapped up to look at his face, but it was rid of all emotion and he was focused intensely on me. I was taken back, maybe I had imagined it. I cleared my throat and shuffled a little, "You should lay down on your bed, sire." I was hoping that he would say yes, but sadly that wasn't the case as his voice quickly took a nasty turn,
"No." I nodded slowly, turning around quickly and pulling the fur blanket off the bed and adjusting the pillows.
"Then lay here." I said with more force than I intended, or expected to come out of my mouth. I bit my lip in horror as I watched from below my lashes as he watched in surprise. His eyes grew hazy and he suddenly began peculiarly tilting to the side. I rushed forward knowing he was going to fall if I did not support him. I placed my arm tightly around him, careful not to touch his wound, and took his arm and put it over my shoulder. His skin was warm where I touched, and the tingles that suddenly shot up my arm quickly were ignored. He winced and grimaced, and I tried not to look at his wound for the fear that I would faint. The rag had fallen and revealed very gruesome looking skin.
"This is your room, Ms Woods, I'd rather you help me into one of the guest rooms." he wheezed out and suddenly put more weigh against me and I nearly gave out under his weight. I almost let out a cry, but instead I took a deep breath, heaving him up as I dragged him to the bed. He weakly protested, but I did not falter as I determinedly dragged us across the room to the bed, wanting to be quick as possible and get help.
"Prince Edmund, this is a guest bedroom and I am merely a guest. I would be leaving soon enough, it is all right." I replied as I sat him carefully on the bed, tenderly fixing the sheets and pillows, shocking myself at the action. I straightened and as the wound came into view again, I covered my mouth with my hand to stop myself from gagging. I looked down at my dress to see blood had been splattered all over it and my eyes widened at how much blood he was losing. I frantically looked around for a cloth and ended up ripping my old dress to use as strips. I glanced back at the prince to see him watching me,
