Chapter 7 : A spark, a miracle
"Do not speak with me Arabella St James!" Anne huffed in anger as she shooed me away and began viciously yanking the cover off the bed. I resisted replying to her in an unlady-like manner and instead regarded her in deep thought, giving up.
Having said my good byes to my brothers, except for Christopher, I have been attempting to explain to her and appologize to this infuriating woman for the past ten minutes about my sudden trip to enemy land, and she refuses to listen! Instead, she determinedly marches forward from bedroom to bedroom yanking off teh sheets for wash. I was thinking of a way to get her to soften towards me, when she suddenly turned to glance at me at the sudden silence.
Aha! I instantly sobered and turned slightly away from her, "Fine, mother," I sniffed, and wiped my eyes as if I had loose tears. Within seconds her face withered in pain at the sound of my voice adressing her as 'mother'. I wanted to grin at my new tactic, but resisted, "I had hoped we could part with smiles, but you refuse to acknowledge me. I must go now, before Christopher comes running." I sniffed, "Who knows when we shall see the other's face again." I let a small sobb as I turned slowly towards the door of the guest bedroom.
One...
Two...
"Arabella!" I smiled in victory at the sound of my name. I turned with a sad expression and watched as Anne dropped the sheet and ran towards me, "Oh dear child, don't say such words!" She gathered me in a warm embrace and stroked my hair in the familiar rhythm I was that soothed me as a child, "You break my heart when you cry like that, Bella. Why did you not speak with of the matter?" She pulled back and regarded the smile that had slipped in my face with a frown,
"You devil child!" she wagged a finger at me, "Playing with my emotions like that, I shouldn't forgive you, but I cannot stay angered with you for long." I smiled innocently and she chuckled as she kissed my cheek before pinning me with a hard look, "I will not allow you to trudge into their land like an empty headed flower! You will get thrown into their prison if you were to be discovered, or worse killed!" I winced at her rising voice and covered my ears,
"Mother listen!"
"No, Arabella St James, you listen to this old haggard, because I will not allow you to walk away from me to never come back!" She snapped, her warm and lovely face growing red as bull,
"It was not my idea to begin with! I did not want to go," I threw my hands in the air, agitated, "It was Christopher's marvelous plan to send me!" mother paused,
"Christopher?" she shrieked and I winced, "I knew that boy was up to no good, since the moment I saw him! He is exactly like his up to no good father! Of course he'd want my little flower to go, he'd never risk his pretty little-"
"Mother!" I cried in frustration at her on-going rant that was likely to never end. She huffed and crossed her arms,
"That boy will have it comin', sending my little girl off to die," she muttered under her breath and I sighed. She is never going to stop. I rubbed my forehead before gatherng her up in my arms and hugging her tightly.
She stood still, not answering to my hug, "Mother, I promise nothing will happen to me. They don't even know of King Jerediah having a daughter! And the entire point of I leaving now is so that the Kigdom does not suspect that we have found out about their secret messages." I kissed her fragile cheeks and cupped her face in my hands, "Mother, I promise I'll come back to you. There's no doubt about it, you cannot even think about the inevitable, because you know I will." she finally looked me in the eye from her stubborn stance. She let out a sigh of defeat, her cheeks growing wet with the trails of tears,
