Chapter 12 : Noises in the Dark
Alexander's POV
"I will say this once, and only once so listen closely." I yanked Christopher's coat's collar and matched his glare, while my fists trembled with controlled rage, "If Arabella does not come within five morns, in perfect health, then Jove help you, no one will stop me from serving your head on a silver platter."
"To your own blood?" Christopher smirked, and I slammed him against the wall,
"You're are no more brother to me then the shoes on my feet!" I snarled and spat at his feet, "You sacrifice my sister for your own advantage, you are no better than your cold-blooded, swine of a father!" Christopher shoved me back,
"He runs in your veins too, dear brother, don't speak as if he does not. I had suggested the idea, you had gone along with it, do not blame it all on me." He spat back, though his demeanor was calm, almost like a deadly calm. His eyes emotionless as he spoke, making one think whether he cared for any at all.
I growled, seeing red, "It is not his blood that runs in me, it is my mothers! Unfortunate for you were not given such an honor, your are as heartless as the cad-"
"Would you both stop snarling at each other like two rabid dogs!" John shouted, slamming his hand on the door as he marched into Christopher's room. I huffed, attempting to snare my rapidly growing anger, glaring at Christopher as he crossed his arms across his broad chest and glared back. "I could hear you both on the other end of the damn castle! Not to mention father has been paroling the halls again!"
"Well, then tell your dear brother to stop blaming everything on me since he has clearly stated that I am no longer his blood." Christopher grind out and I hissed at him,
"You are to be blamed! It-"
"Enough!" John growled, he spun around to face me, and hissed, "How could you doubt Arabella? She is practically a brother to us, she knows how to get around, why are you speaking as if she will fail?"
"John, she has gone into enemy land! What do you expect me to believe? Unless she has not been caught, and killed already, we may as well be preparing for war because sooner or later, it will slip. It has been nearly five days. Five days is enough to gather up men and begin their march here!" I cried. Next thing I knew, his fist flew towards my face and I was clutching my jaw in pain.
Silence rung in the room and winced as I straightened and glanced at John's angry gaze and Christopher's emotionless one as he watched with no interest. "That was much deserved." I grunted.
John ran a hand through his hair with an exasperated sigh, "You deserved one harder than that, if you ask me." he glared and I tested my jaw with a frown. "Now if you two are done with your useless complaining and blaming and expecting the worst, we have another dire situation at hand." I walked over to a large chair with gold engravings and slumped into it,
"What is it?" I asked, and John grew serious and almost nervous as he crossed his arms to keep from fidgeting his hands, a trait I knew too well. I sat up straight and watched with intense focus as he cleared his throat,
"Father noticed Arabella is missing." There was a silence as we let the news seep in, however Christopher was faster to react than I,
"What? He has never cared, he barely knows how she looks like! How can you be so sure?" He hissed,
John shook his head, "He has noticed that servants have been going missing, and assumes that they have been escaping. He is becoming even more vile towards them-"
