Chapter 19 : The Invitation
John turns with his hands on his hips, "Who in Jove's name are you?"
Sir Caden did not reply for a moment as he stared at John in thought. John looked angry, with his legs apart, standing in a intimidating stance and a thunderous expression. I looked unsurely at John, he is certainly showing much dislike towards the knight.
Sir Caden spoke, glancing at every man in the room as he boldly stated his name, "I am Sir Caden, knight of the Kingdom of the West."
Alexander stepped forward, his eyes narrowed, "And what is your duty to my sister?"
Sir Caden had just opened to his mouth to speak, as if in a nonchalant manner when Alexander interrupted him,
"I need straight answers, do not wind me in lies because I will know and that will not be good as you stand on my land, knight." his cyan eyes leveled with Sir Caden's in a stern and steady gaze, "My sister is my world, speak with care."
Sir Caden looked as if he wanted to roll his eyes, and I watched him with curiosity. My eyes never leaving his being as I observed him, his towering height and his large build. Strong arms and legs, however hands that looked capable of pulling a thin thread through a needle; long and thin fingers that looked more like they were made to play an instrument of music rather violence. His eyes were kind, and although wary and guarded as he reconsidered his reply to Alexander, they held a warmth.
"I am a close friend of Prince Edmund, and I have been sent by him to always remain by Lady Arabella's side. My duty is to prince Edmund, my king and now to her." Sir Caden finally replied, and Christopher raised his eyebrows, crossing his arms across his chest, his cold eyes watching Sir Caden with an even more intense look than I,
"She stands on her land, and in her home, she does not your protection, knight."
Sir Caden's eyes hardened as he glanced at Christopher, "I have been given an order, and I will not disobey."
"What makes you think she will be harmed? Never has a hand been lain on her in abuse here, yet you believe that she needs to be protected?" Christopher growled and I nervously looked between there. Johnathan threw his hands in the air and turned, muttering, "Here we go again." and marched over to a chair and sat down.
"Not I, I am merely following orders, Prince Christopher. If you have any objections, Prince Edmund is the man who should speak to."
"Indeed I will! He is the man that she needs protection from, that bastard-"
Sir Caden's eye narrowed in anger, "I will not hear a word against my prince in my prescence. I mean no disrespect, but I'd prefer it if you keep your dislike to yourself." Alexander turned and walked toward John while I nearly hyperventilated.
Oh no, I wanted to throw my arms in the air just as Johnathan had, but I could not. I knew Christopher was going to roar in anger any second, and so I quickly jumped in between, and turned to Christopher.
"Brother, what has been done has been done, we cannot forever ponder on the past. I may be getting married to him, but it is not as if I would have to stay beside him every second of the day. they just need our title alongside theirs." I spoke quickly, wanting Christopher's eyes to move away from looking above my head at Sir Caden's as if he was going to shred him into pieces. "Christopher, we have more pressing matters than to waste it in such quarrels."
He finally glanced down, his harsh expression breaking away into a more passive one, I let out a relieved breath.
"Alexander?" Everyone looked towards the voice who spoke.
