Starry Paws Book Two

Rabbit mistakes

     Petalpaw sat in the center of camp with Potionkit and Celstialkit. I purred as Potionkit leaped at her tail. As Celestialkit cried in amazement at the pounce, and as Petalpaw laughed and swished her tail.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath High Rock for a clan meeting!" Preystar yowled. I limps over and sat down.
"Step forward Crowpaw, You will now be known as Crowshine! For you shining spirit!"
"Fernpaw! You will be Fernpelt! For you spiky but gentle fur!"
"Beepaw! You are Beebelly! For your short-furred belly!" He called.
"Beebelly! Crowshine! Fernpelt!"
I leaped up and took his place.
"Goosepaw! You will be known as Goosejump! For you excellent jumping ability!"
"Magpiepaw! You will be known as Magpiefoot! For you stunning large paws!"
"Last be not least! Petalpaw! You will be Petalcloud! In memory of your mother's name and love." I let a tear fall as my kits stood proudly at the foot o the rock.
       "Lionkit! Your name is now Lionpaw, Lightningfoot shall mentor you!"
"Juniperkit! You are now known as Juniperpaw, Frostwillow is your mentor!"
"Brindlekit! Your now Brindlepaw! I shall mentor you!" Preystar mewed as he kits touched noses to their mentors.
"Brindlepaw! Lionpaw, Juniperpaw!"

     "Skykit!  Your name is now Skypaw! Splashcliff is going to mentor you!"
"Palekit! It's has come to my attention that you are interested in becoming a medicine cat? Am I correct?"
Palekit looked up shyly.
"Yes."
"Then you are a medicine cat apprentice!"
"Palepaw! Palepaw! Skypaw! Skypaw!"

     "Now! Moorkit! Your now Moorpaw! Singewhisker shall mentor you!" Preystar called the last meeting.
I touched my nose to Moorpaw's pink wet nose.
"Anyway! Now the important stuff is out of he way!
Patrols will be Singewhisker and Spalshcliff take the apprentices out!
Sapphiresplash will take Mouswhisker, Birchpool, and Fernpelt out on hunting!
And lastly I would like Beebelly to take, Coldnose, Crowshine, and Lightningfoot for border patrols!"

      "The one thing you must remember while hunting is to not swish your tail at all!" I ordered.
"After you kill the prey say these words,'Thank you Starclan for this prey's life, and for helping it feed our clan.'" Splashcliff pipped up.
I nodded and smiled.
"Try it! You!" I purred and pointed my tail at Moorpaw.
He looked up in shock.
"Oh I'm okay...." He whispered and steeped into the clearing and sniffed. He followed the trail.
"Moorpaw! That's not our territory!" I hissed and leaped out. Splashcliff grabbed  me, "look." She whispered as Moorpaw stalked forward to a rabbit. He wiggled and leaped onto the bunny. He chirped and looked up.
"Sorry...." He said.
"Hey!" A stern voice hissed.
A gray tabby she-cat ran up with a patrol behind her.
"I'm so sorry Featherflight! This is Moorpaw's first day! I'm so sorry!" I b fed and grabbed the tiny cat by the scruff and placed him on our side of the border. I picked up the rabbit and tossed it to Featherflight.
"Again I'm so sorry." I dipped my head.
"Your lucky Bramblestar wasn't here!" She sighed and smiled.
"Keep the prey." She nudged it over.
I dipped my head in thanks and went home.
