I woke up to the sound of sniffling. Finn was sitting up with his legs crossed. Even though it was dark in the room, I could tell he was crying. I sat up and put an arm around his waist. He flinched at my touch.
"Bad dream?" I asked. He slowly nodded his head.
"Worse than that. It was fucking horrifying" he whispered.
"Do you want to tell me about it?" I replied softly.
"I-it was about my mom..." He answered.
"Oh." I said. I put my hand on his cheek and wiped off a tear. Just the thought of Finn's terrible childhood made my heart break. Nobody deserves to be treated the way he was. I couldn't imagine having a family that didn't care about you.
I grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze. He smiled and laid back down. I rested my head on his chest. I enjoyed listening to his heartbeat. It was very peaceful.
"Millie?" He said shyly.
"Yeah?" I replied.
"Do you think we'll be together forever?" He asked. I felt my face start to warm up.
"Yes. I do."
