At dinner Isabelle had tried to give Alec glances of reassurance across the table, but he kept his eyes downcast, and remained silent. Victoria had attempted to start conversation but it had failed time and time again. Alec played with his fork not hungry in the least, his stomach a nervous labyrinth of knots. Excusing himself from the table he rushed to the bathroom, sliding to lock and sighed in relief. He sank back against the vanity looking at his pale sunken face in the mirror. Had it really been one day? Seemed like eternity. Victoria...He could not marry this girl, what would Magnus say about this! He now realized why his father had been so chipper earlier, "He's still trying to change me..."
Alec whispered to the walls breathlessly. There was a knock at the door, "Alexander are you alright?" Robert. Instead of answering Alec reached for the latch of the window prying it opening. Slipping over the edge he plummeted towards the ground.
He impacted with a soft thud, but hurriedly scrambled to his feet. It had begun to rain, the drops puring down on his cheeks mixing with his on coming tears. He ran then, fast, so fast he couldn't feel his legs beneath him.
He pushed past the mundanes, carelessly his tears falling down his cheeks. He received peculiar stares, and people cried out as he shoved past that he was rude and should watch were he was going. But still he ran, he needed to get to that place. He needed to breathe.
Jace and Clary had watched the notebook, Clary though had fallen asleep, and Jace played with her fiery red hair with fascination. His reverie was interred when he cell phone vibrated in his pocket, he rummaged around to answer it, slightly annoyed. "Hello?"
"J-Jace..." A tearful Isabelle replied. "You need to get back to the intsitute now!"
"Isabelle calm down what's wrong?"
"It's Alec..." She sobbed. "He didn't take the news of Victoria well."
Jace jerked up straighter at the mention of his parabatai's name, waking the sleeping Clary in his lap, she rubbed at her eyes.
"What's happened Iz...?" Jace's voice was cold and hard.
"Jace I'm so scared. He's gone, jace. He's gone and we can't find him."
Magnus rushed rough the streets if New York, his boyfriend had been gone for five yours now, and with no answer when he called the institute he had set out to find him himself. Even at 1 in he morning manhattan was buzzing with life, but the lights and sounds were drowned out to Magnus like water rushing through his ears.
Where the hell was Alec?! He was praying, he was safe.
"But oh god when I find him he's dead!" Magnus shouted In frustration.
Alec leaned against the tree in the lark, this is where he came when he needed to think, and right know he needed to think a lot. What was he going to do about Victoria, he couldn't very well just refuse. But Magnus...he out his head in his hands and let out a choked sob. He was freezing cold the rain dripping on him through the branches, his sweater was ruined with water and dirt, the stitching unraveling.
He closed he eyes shut fighting for a moment and when he opened them again the rain had stopped falling on him. He looked up to see a golden figure standing over him with an umbrella. "Jace...."
"Jace shrugged of his jacket putting it around Alec's shoulders and sat besides him the umbrella propped between them. "You realize it's almost 2 a.m. Right?" He said with his famous sarcastic tone.
Alec just nodded. "You don't looked so good." Jace added. "You alright?" Alec shook his head to that, he was certainly not okay. "Listen Alec I can tell Robert that you won't marry Victoria if you don't have the guts to it. "
Alec looked up with wide eyes. "You would do that.."
"Of course Alec, your my parabatai, my best friend, my brother. I would do anything to make you happy." At this Alec smiled through his tears. But that faded with the vision if his fathers disgusted face at the refusal. The image if the silver gleaming buckle in his belt and the crack in the leather snapping on skin. Over and over and over.
"But Jace you can't or...or ...or" and that was all Alec could take before bursting into tears again.
The park was Magnus's last option he ran in, rugged and out if breath the raj water streaming his eyeliner down his face and his slimed hair plastered to his head. He called out to Alec again and again praying fir a reply. That was when he received his answer.
"Hey Magnus over here!" Magnus let out a sigh of relief as he spun around, but he chest quickly constricted again. Their was Jace standing in the rain umbrella over head and Alec sobbing uncontrollably into the boy's shoulder.
