A Rough Day

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late

My daughter should reach school quarter to eight

We woke our usual time at twenty past four

Let Bubbles, the dog, through the door.

The clothes were already pressed

We had our baths and then got dressed.

Got to the bus stop and waited

Called the driver, the bus will be late

Took a cab to Highgate, then we proceeded to wait.

Got a taxi to Annotto Bay

But Good Lord!!! He's taking the long way!

The ride was long, tedious and boring

And to make it worse a passenger started snoring

Finally, Annotto Bay we have reached

Two buses to Kingston but Lord which should I take?

"Half Way Tree, Half Way Tree", the Conductor cried,

"Lady the other bus will give you the same ride!"

The last bus in line I took

Then sighed as around me I took a look

You see, my daughter had examinations today

And it was all my fault she would be late.

"Downtown, Downtown!" Another Conductor cried.

My daughter said "Mom, hurry! This is our ride!"

So twenty to seven I called her school

"Please Miss, I know the School's rule

Quarter to seven is the School's time

But Miss we had problems on the road thru no fault of mine!

Madam, I know the child will be late

She is coming all the way from Highgate."

"Let her do her exams, please

Her life is not one of ease!"

"It's okay. I will log her in

Just give me her name and the grade she is in".

Well, I tried my best but she was still late

I still thanked God as I went to work and walked thru the Ministry's gate

I shall reach work thirty minutes to eight

And still I thanked God that I was not late!
