Nathan and I automatically walked straight back up to the apartment - we didn't have anywhere else to go.

When we got inside, we looked to each other, and burst out laughing.

'That wasn't awkward at all!' I gasped.

'Nope, I'm sure Chelsea's parents absolutely loved meeting me!'

We calmed down finally. 'They're like that all the time,' I said. 'So... Serious. Chelsea was always more enthusiastic.'

'More enthusiastic? Chelsea was pretty much dragging her parents around,' said Nathan, and we laughed again.

We had sat down on the edge of our beds - well, on the bottom bunk, so I was sitting where Chelsea sat, and he was sitting where Ross sat.

'I never expected my parents to come today,' Nathan said finally.

'Neither did I,' I said. 'We weren't exactly close.'

'Neither was I, with my parents.'

I smiled meekly. 'If you could change factions now, to any of the other four, and be automatically Initiated, would you?'

He thought for a moment. 'I don't know where I'd go.'

'What about back to Amity?'

'I don't know' he said. 'It wouldn't really make a difference.'

'Abnegation?'

'I don't understand how anyone can be that selfless, all of the time,' he said, smiling. 'What about you?'

'Honestly,' I said, 'I don't know.'

'Well, you'd fit in at Amity, I can tell you that,' he said. 'And you can tell you're Erudite, the way you speak and notice little things.'

'Well, you're kind and fun and all of that, too, you know,' I said. 'I wouldn't know as well as you would, but you'd probably fit in with Amity, too.'

He shrugged. 'Life can get so boring over there.'

We sat in silence for a moment, but it wasn't awkward or heavy. 'Do you ever feel like you don't fit in anywhere?' He said finally.

'Yeah,' I said. I definitely don't fit in with Candor, at least. God, why did I choose this faction? It was easy enough to tell the truth during the time we've been here, because we hang had the chance to lie, but what about next week, when the lie detectors started? What then? The lie detector tests were in private, but on the last day, they gave us the Truth Serum, and interrogated us in front of everyone, and they ask you a lot of very personal questions. How would I fare when I didn't have the option of lying?

'Me too,' he said.

Our eyes met, and I realised that I was more comfortable here, in this room with Nathan, than I had been anywhere else in my entire life.

Then, the door blew open, killing the moment. Mine and Nathan's eyes quickly snapped up to the door.

It was only Chelsea and Ross coming to tell us that dinner was being served.
