Twilight and I sat for a few hours, chatting about some of the things she had on her mind. Most of them were simply about her princess duties and how they had become such bores to her, more like chores than anything.
But there was one topic that stuck out from the rest. One topic that I got the strange feeling she didn't talk about much.
This topic was not really simple, but exactly complex either.
She asked me if I believed I had a purpose. I said I did and she asked me what it was.
Now THAT was a question I didn't know the answer to.
"I don't exactly know... I do believe I have one. But, I just don't know what..." I sighed.
Twilight chuckled. "You're lucky..." She replied.
I swear, I had to have had the stupidest look of confusion on my face. "What in the world do you mean?"
"You haven't had everything laid out for you. Your purpose, the path for your life... Your destiny. You still get to find out who you are on a deeper level and experience different things as you do so. Me and my friends...? We've already had it all planned for us. We've been given our purposes, our destinies. We defend Equestria and keep the Magic of Friendship strong." She sighed and put her face in her hooves and lightly sobbed.
I hugged her firmly and tried to console her. At first, I thought she would try to push me away. But I soon found that she embraced the hug. "Tell me, Twilight... Is that all not enough for you? Do you wish you had something more?"
The sobbing continued and I hugged her closer to me. "You know what? Forget I asked. Just let it out."
She cried for a good, maybe, 30 to 40 minutes. I didn't mind. I was a consoler. I was there when someone, or somepony in this case, just needed somewhere to cry that they felt comfortable.
"There there. You ok?"
I felt what seemed to be a nod against my chest and I smiled.
"That's it. There you go." I gently started to pat her back. "If you ever need to cry somewhere, my shoulder and chest are always available."
She giggled lightly and sniffled, lifting her head back up to meet my gaze. "Thank you. I needed that."
I slowly nodded. "Of course, Princess."
"May I ask how you knew my name? I don't even know yours."
I suddenly froze and gulped. "U-Uhm... Who wouldn't know the kind and gracious Princess Twilight sparkle?" I tried to smile convincingly.
It didn't work.
"Come now. Tell me, it's the least you can do besides tell me your name."
I sighed and lied to her, telling her that, on my home world, there were scientists that tried to study magic and that they fabled about magical, equine-like creatures that could wield magic on the physical plane.
"Most interesting. Are you one of them?"
"No no. Not even close. The deepest I know about science is the basic chemical principles of elemental bonds. Both ionic and and covalent. That doesn't even scratch the surface of the science behind magic, I'm sure." I chuckled.
Twilight was now the confused one. "Elemental bonds? I don't know what those are. Everything here is bonded with magic."
I laughed. "Well, magic isn't prominent where I'm from. So naturally, it wouldn't be the glue that holds my world together."
She nodded in what appeared to be understanding. "You will have to explain these forces of nature to me sometime. They're are most interesting."
I gave her a nod and smiled.
"Well at least tell me your name. It's only fair that I know yours since you somehow know mine." She laughed.
I chuckled. "Alright alright, fine. I'll tell you. My name is Jacob Frost."
