Chapter 2 – Thinking of Her

IT was about 6:00 in the morning when Joshua woke up. Upon waking up, he immediately thought of Jenny that made him get his phone on his bedside table and called her.

Last night, Jenny did not remember that their 3rd anniversary came. He understood that. Maybe because it was exactly 12 midnight when he called so he was thinking that Jenny was not aware of the time. He just continued thinking that simple. He did not want to hurt himself especially now it's a day that shouldn't get ruined.

It was a few rings before Jenny answered. He was expecting that this time, she would finally remember what day it was.

"Love? What is it? You just called me hours ago? Is there a problem?" Unexpected questions were thrown as she answered his calls. Joshua was not expecting that response. He was expecting that she might greet him a happy anniversary but she wasn't. He was disappointed.

He tried to calm himself. He did not want to make her notice that he's not okay. "I just want to greet you a good morning. Is it bad for me to greet you, love?" He asked, trying to hide his hurt feeling.

"You're getting weirder, love. It's okay for me but I'm still sleepy. I know that it's nighttime there in Seoul but you should consider that I was still sleeping. It's getting annoying."

Joshua gnawed. He sighed before talking again. "I'm sorry."

"Nevermind. Is there something you really want to say? Oh come on love, don't tell me you really called just to greet me a good morning? That's silly knowing that you called me last time around midnight just to tell me you love me."

I thought you would remember. Joshua couldn't help thinking that Jenny's really acting unusually. Before, she never forgot their anniversary, his birthday, or any event that would commemorate the two of them. He was thinking that he's just paranoid but he couldn't help thinking that something's really wrong with her.

He sighed again before he spoke. "H-happy anniversary. I thought you would remember but I guess you forgot about today."

Seconds passed that Jenny was not speaking. He knew that his girlfriend might have realized that she forgot what day it was.

"Jenny..." he called.

"I'm sorry, Joshua." Joshua's heart skipped a beat as he heard Jenny calling him by the name. He only was used to her calling him 'love'. Now, he's starting to think about what Vernon had said. Is she going to tell me that she likes someone else already?

Joshua mentally slapped himself, trying to drop that thought he had. "It's okay, Jenny. Maybe you are just really tired for you to forget the date today. I won't mind." He tried his best to show that he did not have any idea of what she might tell him.

"No, Joshua, I mean..." she heard her sigh. "I... I..."

"You don't have to tell me if you can't. You can go back to sleep now." He said, trying to avoid the words from her that might hurt him.
