it was early summer, a month after youngjae sent in his audition. now, sitting by the dinner table with his family as they discussed his older sister's desire to get a dog. youngjae joined his sister's reasonings as for he himself wanted a pet for a long time, but their parents declined their pleadings smugly.

"once you move out, you can have as many dogs as you want," they promised.

with that, everyone silently dispersed into their own corners around the house and youngjae took his rightful position on the top bunk; letting his phone play music as he scrolled endlessly through his media.

his brother lay on the bed underneath him when he heard him say, "any news regarding your audition?"

"why? it's not like you'd care anyways."

"i'm sorry," his apology sounded genuine, "i didn't mean to offend you so harshly, it's just i— don't want you to be upset over it later.."

youngjae popped his head and looked downward at the older boy, "thanks, i guess," he mumbled, accepting his brother's misinterpretations.

"you know i'll support whatever you're planning to do, right? i'm just scared for my little brother—"

"hyung stop, i don't know whether i want to cry now or punch you," youngjae laughed, throwing his pillow into the older boy's face who caught it with ease.

"oh no you didn't!—" was his last phrase before the two brothers began a war of pillow wrestling.

and after timeless moments, youngjae ended up being on the carpeted floor; his brother grasping his hold as he tickled him endlessly.

"stop stop stop it!—" youngjae pleaded as tears escaped his eyes from uncontainable laughter.

"promise me first that you won't give up on your singing even if they don't accept you."

"i promise hyung," youngjae coughed out, "now let me go and explain why you drastically changed your mind about this."

with a sigh, the older boy muttered, "in the last month; during some days i'd come home earlier and accidentally hear you sing—"

youngjae's face went pale.

"—and i can't deny the fact that you actually have a great voice."

"thanks hyung," youngjae murmured, "this really means a lot to me—"

but his words were interrupted by a notification ping that came from his phone which was left behind to lay on the top bunk.

a series of thoughts ran through youngjae's head as he climbed up and picked up his phone only to see an email message.

"uh, just this spam again," he mumbled, "when did i even sign up for newsletters about cooking pots—"

"what is it?" his brother looked into his screen as it displayed the colourful advertisement, youngjae clicked out onto the email's front page and muttered a "nothing".

"—holy jisoo, how many unread emails do you have."

"a lot," youngjae laughed, "they're mostly spam though so i don't check it often."

his brother now handled his phone with amusement as he scrolled downwards, "yeah, this totally explains how you missed this—" he motioned at the unopened email that arrived yesterday morning.

"wait, what—"

"seriously youngjae, btob fanclub subscription fee?—"

"they're kings of extra okay? let me fanboy."

"alright alright, i'll just be here with jj-project on repeat," the older boy admitted with a goof smile, "like did you see junior? and don't even get me started with jb—"

"fanboy," youngjae coughed out, earning an attack of tickles as he fell back onto the floor in a spur of giggles.

another ping sounded a moment later as youngjae recovered from the loss of air in his lungs, "i swear to god if it's something to do with cow farms or discounts on books in languages i can't read; i will flip—" he picked up his phone and gazed at the screen with furrowed eyebrows.

his older brother didn't question youngjae's intrests but just stared as the younger boy's jaw vividly fell open.

"what is it? free bigbang tickets? merch discounts? new jj project comeback?—"

"—something better," youngjae let out in a whisper.

"dear choi youngjae, we are delighted to inform you that your online audition surpassed successfully. we would like to invite you for a private audition at the jyp building in august—"
