jackson opened the fridge door, knowing that there was nothing inside, but his heart (and stomach) were hoping for some magic anyway.
"guys there's a famine in the house! i'll die from starvation!" he complained, calling out loudly to the rest of the members who were trying to recover from another long day of practice.
"then go grocery shopping!" yugyeom's voice echoed from the living room.
jackson whined, stamping his feet like a child, "but i'm tired," he pouted, facing the rest of the group with baby eyes.
"then send the parents," bambam shrugged him off as youngjae laughed, "parents?"
"he meant jinyoungie and jaebum," mark cleared it up for the younger boy as jackson swooned over jaebum being daddy material, at which the rest of the group just rolled their eyes.
"so if jinyoung-hyung and jaebum-hyung are parents, who's everyone else?" youngjae questioned with a goof smile, his back outstretched next to yugyeom who sprawled over the sofa.
"well, mark-hyung is the grandfather," jackson thought aloud, "i'm the cool uncle, then you," he motioned at youngjae, "you're the child. and yugyeom is the adopted son—"
yugyeom looked disappointed but not surprised.
"—and bambam is the pet guinea pig."
"—then you're the pet goat!" the younger boy pointed fingers as they started quarrelling.
mark sighed, "didn't this begin with an empty fridge?"
jackson heard the boy's words, screaming "yes!" as he ran to get jaebum who came out of a shower a minute ago, and jackson wasn't really bothered to get jinyoung because the boy went to take a nap (from which he'd wake up the next morning).
"why should i go?" jaebum complained, his hands in a towel as he dried his hair.
"well there's two reasons," jackson counted his fingers.
"one — you're like the leader? so take care of your children."
"two — i'm hungry."
jaebum rolled his eyes, "well i'm not going alone."
a sudden series of 'begsy not me!' erupted in voices from the living room. and that pretty much included everyome except for youngjae who was too distracted to realise what was going on.
he stuttered, "hey! that wasn't fair—" he mumbled as his eyes skimmed jaebum, pulling his gaze away as the rest of the boys started to compose a shopping list for the two of them.
youngjae grumbled, pushing yugyeom off his legs as he stumbled to his bedroom to dress into a pair of jeans and pastel-pink hoodie. it was evening outside, windy but warmer than the usual for an autumn month.
"you ready?" jaebum called out to the younger boy as he held a list made by yugyeom, bambam, jackson and mark in moments previous.
— strawberry mochi
— red bean mochi
— ube mochi
— x35 packs of ramen
— chicken (not alive like last time)
— peppero sticks
— kimbap
— kimchi sauce
— rice
— more rice
+ toothpaste, washing-up liquid & bin bags
youngjae sighed, "that's extremely detailed and bothersome, but at least i'm not going with bambam like last time — i couldn't get him out from the skinny jeans section for an hour," he recalled with a heavy heart as jaebum laughed beside him, taking their money savings and a decently big bagpack that sat on his shoulders.
with that, jaebum took the keys and called out, "bye kids," as he closed the door behind himself. in front of him, youngjae drew his lips into a thin line as they made their way down the stairs and outside into the city landscape.
the evening wind sent a chill down both their spines, and with shuffling steps, they slowly made their way downtown towards a local grocery shop. cars whizzed past, and street lamps were lighting up in an orange glow, casting shadows upon the pavement that they paced.
a moment or two passed when jaebum extended his arm in the younger boy's direction, and youngjae stared at the other's welcoming hand before intertwining their fingers together, a sudden feeling of warmth spreading through him as he felt a smile crawl onto his lips.
darkening skies, city sighs, and blushing cheeks.
