"do you want us to tell you the truth?" the judging panel eyed them, sitting before the group of seven who held their heads down.

without a reply, they proceeded without their approval.

"for starters, you had two dance choreographies prepared for today, in honesty, they weren't that bad. if you don't consider youngjae forgetting the dance in the background and jinyoung tripping over bambam. twice. then, your two prepared songs. yugyeom still lacks in stability, alot, and jackson doesn't even understand the concept of the music at all. like what is this mess? i understand there's a new person and all that, but it should not have affected your training scores. it is reasonable for youngjae to lack in dance unlike the rest of you, so please — get yourselves together by the end of the next month. because if not, you'll be facing jyp-nim, and it won't be good, i can promise you that."

they were excused, and one by one, they stumbled out of the room without a word but only a bow to present their mannered gratitude.

it was late, the sun was busking into the clouds as they made their way back to the dorm with aching hearts.

they knew it was their fault. they barely slept the night, watching tv and messing around, having too much fun to process the importancy of the day ahead.

jaebum couldn't help but blame himself, tear himself into this leader position as he became uncontrolling of his feelings that submerged through the veins in his body. he knew that if he opened his mouth, words would escape in misunderstanding and anger. and so he kept shut, strolling with the rest until they made it to their humble little place.

upon their arrival, jaebum threw his shoes off and silently paced to his room. he closed the door behind him with a deafening slam.

mark and jinyoung exchanged worried glances, jackson slumbered into the kitchen for a mindless snack, though he wasn't hungry, yugyeom and bambam quietly sat in front of tv — trying to distract themselves from all the pounding thoughts, and youngjae just stood in regret.

they were all so defeated. so torn apart and helpless. and it really hurt. all their hard work wasted because of a bad day.

in reality, everyone understood that this is just another step in their training. failure. and they knew that they can do much better next time — but at that moment, they just wanted a new day to come and start again.

mark patted youngjae's shoulder with grief in his eyes, "don't torture yourself over anything. it was partially everyone's fault, everyone is equally responsible for today's mistakes."

youngjae nodded his head, unable to form any words in reply as he joined yugyeom and bambam on the sofa, their eyes focused on the meaningless series of actions that projected before them.

it was annoying, the silence, the empty rooms of laughter and smiles, all this tranquility suffocating with each passing moment.

to his left, youngjae saw bambam snore himself into a light sleep on yugyeom's shoulder who snuggled in closer for warmth. on his other side, jackson just (for once) lay quietly on his stomach with his phone between his fingers; gazing at something as he scrolled by.

tired, youngjae stumbled off the sofa with gentle shuffles as he yawned his way to his room — stopping by the door as he creaked it open slowly.

jaebum lay on his back, arms bent behind his head as he drowned himself in the music that linked from his earphones. once seeing youngjae by the threshold; he immediately drew away eye contact, turning his face away as the younger boy stuttered inside.

youngjae knew there was no point to start a conversation with the boy, so he just changed into a hoodie and softly fell onto the mattress. with a blanket on him, he lay flat on his side by the wall as he faced the concrete material before murmuring his eyes close.

"i'm sorry," he whispered, his lips rough as his heart tingled, unaware that the older heard him well.

youngjae wasn't sure at first if it was a dream when he felt jaebum's hand landing on his waist and drawing him closer — or if it was just his exhausted mind playing games.

but when he felt the other's breath lingering on his neck; he wasn't sure of what to think.

slowly, youngjae turned himself around, only to be hit with the fact that jaebum was extremely close, his eyes digging into his own as he faced him faintly.

there was sadness there, in jaebum's eyes, no anger left to spare.

"just sleep," youngjae ran his hand along the other's cheek as it dropped down between them.

jaebum didn't want to— but as he saw the younger boy slumber into sleep with a small smile lingering on his lips; he couldn't help it.
