Flames dance in the windless air
Shadowy fingers curling
Reaching tendrils upwards
Upwards, upwards, upwards
The smoke in the air
Settling down
Thick as it is
And we think we can breathe
But we're suffocating
With our every breath
As we're dragged down beneath
I always thought it was darkest
When there was no light
Now I know it's when
People treat darkness as if it were too bright
Vision is a blessing
But what I see seems like a curse
So many horrible things
And they only get worse
Out every candle
Set the whole place aflame
Hide in the shadows
The light isn't ever the same
When the night finally ends
Stare at the sun
Whose reaching ray of light
Touches no one
You tell me not to judge
And I keep my mouth shut
There are threads through my lips
And they're still not enough
Should I keep listening
When I hate what you say
Ignoring you doesn't work
I hear your words anyway
Agree to disagree
But you never change
It's all about you
You couldn't care either way
When will you grow up
And really mature
In a thousand pairs of footsteps
Only one is yours
The sand covers it up
And people will forget
But maybe that's just
What you deserve
A cold embrace
That came as you turned away
It closes around you
Outing your flames
The tendrils are shrinking
Coming down, down, down
All that is left
Is dust on the ground
Ashes of an empire
Smaller than a stone
The flames burned out
Are we really sad
To see them go
