“Wait so he was in your bed, and you were there as well?” Heather gasped slapping my arm.
“You make it sound so dirty oh my god!” I laughed, taking a sip of my coffee.
“Get it in babe!” she laughed.
“Shut up Heather, I’m not interested in Hemmings,” I said halfheartedly. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Luke. Most of the time he pissed me off, but after last night I felt so confused. I never let my guard down, yet I managed to fall asleep on him.
“Where did he come from anyway? I hadn’t even heard of him until you mentioned him,” Heather said, pouring some sugar into her coffee.
“I’m not sure, I think he moved from Australia in like freshmen year,” I replied, attempting to remember anything about him.
“Why the hell would he leave sunny Australia for sub-urban Detroit?” Heather scoffed.
“How would I know, maybe his family has a deep passion for Eminem and wanted to live his life,” I said, giggling at my own joke.
“Luke wouldn’t last five minutes in the rap world, can you even imagine him doing a rap battle?” Heather said, laughing hysterically.
“I don’t even think rap battles are a real thing!” I laughed, tears forming in my eyes from laughing so hard.
We continued to laugh at our jokes for the next fifteen minutes, before we finished our coffees and returning home.

I walked into school on Monday morning, chatting with Holden about his football tryouts. Suddenly my brother turned and faced me, excitement spreading across his face.
“Oh I ran into Ashton Irwin at the grocery store, and he said the Luke told him that you two hung out?” my bother said, raising his eyebrows at me.
“Yeah we just watched a movie, it wasn’t a big deal,” I huffed. I was frankly annoyed that people kept making assumptions about me and Luke. I didn't even know how I felt about him, I didn't need other people bothering me about it.
“Woah chill out Zoey it’s not like I said you two had sex or anything,” my brother said, raising his hands in defense.
“It’s fine, sorry I’m just a little on edge,” I replied, feeling bad for snapping at my brother. Holden and I had always been close. Since dad was constantly travelling and mom was a psycho bitch, we were all each other had.
“Alright Zoey, I’ve got to go to class. See you after school?” my brother said, clapping me on the shoulder.
"Yeah, see you later."

I walked into physics, sitting down across from Luke. I looked up at him, clearing my throat. Luke looked up at me, slightly raising his eyebrows. I opened my mouth, about to say something when Mr. Davies cut me off.
“Good morning class. I hope everyone had a restful weekend. You can all forget about that now because I have a pop quiz for you all.”
I felt my heart literally drop from my chest. A pop quiz was the one thing I really didn’t need right now, considering the fact that I haven’t understood a single thing that was happening in this class. As Mr. Davies went around the room passing out the quiz, I looked up in horror at Luke.
“Shit, I have no idea what I’m going to do. Nothing for the last week has made any sense in this class,” I whispered to him.
“That’s not my problem, maybe you should have paid attention like the rest of us,” Luke said icily, grabbing his quiz from Mr. Davies.
I sat with my mouth agape, shocked at this weird change in mood. After what happened on Friday, I figured he had warmed up to me a little. I didn’t expect us to become best friends straight away, but I figured he would be a little nicer to me. I released a loud sigh as I looked down at the quiz in front of me. The words looked more like ancient hieroglyphics than English. I am screwed.
Lukes P.O.V
Shit. Shit. Why did I say that? She’s going to think I am a total asshole. I just don’t know how to react after Friday. We got along fine that day, but does she consider us friends? I was just too scared that she didn’t think of me as a friend and panicked. I glanced up at her, noticing how bright red her face was. Her brows were furrowed in concentration, eyes rapidly scanning the paper in front of her. She nervously tapped her pencil against the table, shaking her head every so often. I looked down at my quiz, which I had already finished half of. Physics was something that came easily to me, I was wired with a math brain, and so I could work out the complicated equations. Zoey was obviously very different. She was an artist, and an amazing one at that. She appreciated all things creative and beautiful, something that I had never bothered focusing on until I met her.
Ugh snap out of it Hemmings, she’s just some girl who’ll you will always chase but never catch. And with that thought, I stopped thinking about the alluring girl in front of me and concentrated on finishing the quiz.
I finished the quiz soon after, walking to the front of the class to hand it in to Mr. Davies. I returned to my seat to see that Zoey had only finished half, with only ten minutes left in class. I stuck my leg out, tapping her foot with mine. Her green eyes shot up to meet mine, swimming with anger. I leaned in to whisper an answer to her, but before I could even get a word out, she shook her head.
“Save it Hemmings, I don’t want to hear it” she mumbled, looking back to her work. We sat in silence until the bell rang and Mr. Davies collected her quiz. I stood up to pack my bag, turning to Zoey.
“Hey I’m-“
“Luke I meant what I said earlier, I don’t want to hear it,” she said, her voice full of venom.
She looked up at me, her eyes glazing over with tears.
“I hope your little show at the beginning of class made you feel better,” she said.
And with that she left the class.
