Luke’s POV

My eyes slowly opened as my alarm wrang, signifying that it was time to get up. I groaned and rolled over, shutting off the alarm. After Zoey’s weird visit last night, I only got about two hours of sleep. I stood from my bed and grabbed my shirt and shorts from the chair in the corner of my room. I slipped them on and grabbed my phone as I walked to the kitchen.

“Good morning son, excited?” my dad asked as I placed some bread in the toaster.

“Yeah, I’m also a little nervous,” I said, filling my glass with orange juice.

“Don’t be, you and Zoey will have an amazing time. I’m so proud of you, and I know that your mother would be too,” my dad said, clapping me on my shoulder.

“Thanks dad, I know,” I said, smiling at him as I walked over to the toaster to grab my toast.

I placed it on my plate and began spreading marmite on both pieces when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I had a text from Zoey, saying that she was running late so instead of me picking her up I would just meet her at the airport.

I took a bite of my toast walked to my room, just to make sure I had everything packed. I stood at the foot of my bed, looking around my now empty room.

‘This is it,’ I thought, sitting down on the bare mattress.

I was never going to sleep in this room again, never have my books fill the shelves or my sheets on the bed. I felt the nerves begin to creep up but I pushed them away, thinking about the amazing life that Zoey and I were about to start together.

“Luke, it’s time to go,” my dad called from the hallway.

“Coming,” I replied, standing from my bed and looking back at my room one last time before I shut the door.

“Alright Mr. Hemmings you’re all checked in. Have a save flight!” the checkin lady said, smiling up at me.

“Thanks,” I said, grabbing my passport and shoving it back in my backpack.

“Where r u?” I quickly texted Zoey, who still hadn’t arrived at the airport.

“About to leave, I’ll just meet you at the gate,” she replied.

I sighed and shoved my phone into my back pocket, walking over to my dad.

“Well son, this is where I have to say goodbye,” my dad said, standing from the plastic seat.

“I’ll miss you,” I said, looking down at my shoes and shoving my hands in my pockets.

“I’ll miss you too son, so much. I know I said this earlier, but I’ve never been so proud of you, you’ve grown into a man that I know your mother would have loved. Now, can I hug you?” my dad said, laughing slightly.

“Of course,” I said, awkwardly wrapping my arms around my dad.

My dad patted my back, before squeezing me tightly and letting go.

“Now you and Zoey have fun but please be safe. I really don’t want to be a grandfather at fifty,” my dad laughed.

“We’ll be fine dad,” I said, blushing at my dads comment.

“I know, I know… I just felt like I needed to give you the talk,” he laughed.

“Alright dad, I need to go. I’ll call you right when we land,” I said.

“Have a safe flight, tell Zoey I say hello,” my dad said smiling.

“Will do,” I said, before turning away and walking towards security.
