The week dragged on, and I had avoided interacting with Luke. I knew I was overreacting, and I felt a little bad. I have never believed in wasting my effort on someone who didn’t want to be my friend, and that’s how I felt with Luke. After physics on Monday, he hadn’t bothered to speak to me either so I came to terms that he didn’t want to be friends. That was fine by me. We hadn’t worked on our project since last Friday, but we still had a lot of time. Hopefully by then we would be civil with each other, since after that last quiz I really needed to get a good grade.

“Hello Earth to Zoey,” Jack said waving his hands in front of my face.

“Oh sorry, did I miss anything,” I said, snapping out of my daze and grabbing a french- fry from Jacks plate.

“Well during your space out you missed an invite to Evan’s party tonight. We going?” Jack asked, looking from me to Heather.

I looked at Heather, shrugging my shoulders.

“I’m in, you in Heather,” I said.

“Hell yeah I’m in. You’ve been in a weird funk all week you need to get out and have fun,” Heather laughed.

I tugged at the body hugging black dress as I slipped on my heels. Heather walked out of my bathroom, slicking some bright pink lip -gloss onto her lips.

“Zoey you look amazing, like a classy hooker. One for like lawyers and celebrities” Heather laughed, linking her arm with mine.

We walked out of the room together calling for my brother. The three of us walked outside and got into Jacks car. Holden and I couldn’t drive; since our mother was too lazy go get us any lessons. At seventeen I had never even sat behind the wheel before, which to be honest was really depressing. I sat next to my brother in the back of the car, preparing my self for the chaos that is a high school party.

☆☆☆

Our car pulled up outside of Evan’s giant house. Evans parents were both doctors, so they had a shit load of money and were never home. It may be irresponsiable parenting but it made for the best parties. I linked arms with Heather, entering the packed house. A heavy bass thumped in the background as Heather and I squeezed through the mass of sweaty bodies. We made our way to the table full of drinks, where Heather immediately grabbed a bottle of vodka, pouring a shot for us. She handed one to Jack, my brother, and me and raised her glass in the air. We all smiled at each other, before downing the fiery liquid.

An hour had passed, and I had managed to lose Heather, Jack, and my brother. I was never that much fun at parties, unlike my friends. I never liked to get roaring drunk, so I usually stopped drinking after one or two. The music continued to thump, and it was starting to give me a headache. To try and get a few minutes of quite, I retreated upstairs going into the first room I saw. I closed the door and lay down on the bed, deciding to rest for a few minutes until my headache went away.

My peace was interrupted by a soft knocking at the door, which was then cracked open. I sat up on the bed, my eyes meeting the chocolate brown ones at the door.

“Come in” I said smiling, recognizing Evan.

Evan and I weren’t that close, he was better friends with my brother. He and Holden knew each other through football, so they were pretty close. Evan often hung out in our basement playing video games with Holden, so I'd seen him around a lot.

Evan walked in and sat at the edge of the bed, running one of his large hands through his brown hair.

“It’s getting a little crazy down there isn’t it,” he laughed looking over to me.

“Yeah, I just needed a bit of quiet,” I replied, looking down into my lap.

Evan nodded, his eyes scanning my body.

“You look really hot tonight Zoey,” he said leaning in close to me.

He was so close that I could smell the alcohol on on his breath. I didn’t get a chance to respond to his comment, as I was cut off by his lips slamming against mine.  Caught off guard, it took me a few seconds to respond to the kiss. I wrapped my arms around Evans neck as Evan wrapped his around my waist. He pushed me down onto the bed, kissing my neck as he lay on top of me. Evan continued to leave wet kisses against my neck as he began to fumble with his belt.

“Wait Evan, what are you doing?” I asked, pushing him off me a bit.

“Come on babe you know you want to,” he purred, pulling off his belt.

“No. No I don’t,” I said pushing him off me more.

Evan grabbed my arms and pinned them to my side, looking me strait in the eyes.

“You do. Now shut up, your bitching is ruining the mood,” he said, reattaching his lips to my neck.

I squirmed beneath his grip, biting hard on his ear to get him to release me.

“Ow you bitch!” Evan yelled, grabbing his ear in pain.

I quickly stood up, turning to face the boy tightly gripping his ear.

“Stay away from me,” I said, backing up closer to the door.

“Fucking tease,” Evan yelled, slamming his fist into the side of my head.

My face connected with the cold ground as Evan left the room and slammed the door behind him. I slowly stood up, and shakily ran out of the room, returning to the party. I frantically looked for Jack, Heather, or my brother. I found them on a couch, all three of them drunk as can be.

“Fuck,” I muttered to my self, tears forming in my eyes.

I ran out of the crowed house, pulling out my phone looking for someone to call to pick me up.

I scrolled through the contacts; my mom was out of town for some spa retreat with our neighbors. Every one of my contacts were at this party and too drunk to drive, or were out of town. There was only one person left I could call.

I pressed call, lifting my phone to my ear.

“Hello?” the voice at the other end said, still heavy with sleep.

“Its Zoey,” I sobbed, wiping the blood that had started to flow out from my lip.

“I’m so sorry to call so late but I need you to pick me up. Please help Luke.”
