I swiped on my lip-gloss as I nervously twisted the doorknob. My heart was fluttering as I entered the classroom, glancing shyly in Luke’s direction. We hadn’t spoken all weekend, and I was really nervous to be honest. He was looking at me from his seat, a smile spreading on his face as our eyes locked. I blushed a deep crimson as I walked to my seat, tentatively sitting down in my seat.

“Hi,” Luke said, his smile growing wider.

“Hi,” I replied, tucking a strand of stray hair behind my ear.

“Well this is familiar,” Luke smirked, leaning back in his chair.

“Oh yeah,” I replied, raising one of my eyebrows.

“I want to take you out,” Luke suddenly said, leaning forward and placing his arms on the table.

“Alright, where?” I replied, placing my hands on my face in mock excitement.

“It’s a surprise,” Luke winked, pulling out his books for the class.

“But I hate surprise,” I pouted, crossing my arms across my chest.

“Too bad,” Luke said, laughing.

“Boo… Can you at least tell me how I should dress?” I asked.

“Nope,” Luke replied, his smile once more returning.

“You’re annoying,” I laughed, playfully slapping his arm.

“Yeah but that’s what you like about me,” Luke replied, shrugging his shoulders.

“I never said I liked you,” I replied, giggling.

Luke stuck out his tongue and turned his head, focusing his attention on Mr. Davies, who had started the lesson.

“Wait, he kissed you and you didn’t tell me right after?” Heather asked leaning in across the table.

“Yeah, I just forgot…” I replied, taking a bite out of my sandwich.

“Zoey look at you, getting some action,” Jack replied, slapping me on the shoulder.

I was about to respond when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I turned and locked eyes with Luke, who was awkwardly standing behind me with his tray, Ashton laughing behind him.

“Mind if we sit here?” Luke asked, angling his head to the empty seat next to me.

“Yeah sure,” I replied as Luke sat down next to me.

“And Ashton can sit next to me,” Heather said flirtily, patting the seat next to her.

Aston blushed as he placed his tray next to Heather.

Heather immediately turned her attention to Ashton, twirling a strand of her hair with her finger.

“Looks like Heather’s in for the kill,” I whispered to Luke.

Luke laughed and leaned in closer to me.

“Poor Ashton,” he said, fake pouting.

“So are you ready to tell me what we’re going to do,” I asked, taking a sip of my water.

“Nope. All I can tell you is I’ll pick you up at 6:00 on Friday,” he said smirking.

“But what will I wear,” I replied, sighing.

I really hated surprises. Heather once in second grade threw me a surprise party and instead of thanking her I threw a tantrum. If Luke knew what was good for him, we would run far from surprises.

“Wear clothes… or don’t your choice,” Luke replied cheekily.

“Ew Hemmings you’re such a boy,” I laughed.

“I can’t help it,” he said shrugging.

Ashton cleared his throat from across the table, causing Luke and I to snap up our heads.

“Luke we should probably get going, debate meeting remember?” Ashton said nervously, scooting away from Heather.

“Oh yeah,” Luke said, standing.

“Bye Zoey,” Luke said quickly.

Before I could respond, Luke leaned in and quickly kissed me on the cheek, dashing away before I could react.

I rifled through my closet, adding clothes to the reject pile on the floor. It was Friday, and I had less then half an hour before Luke would be picking me up.

“UGH!” I yelled, throwing another shirt onto the floor.

“Stop yelling Zoey it’s stressing me out,” Heather said, sighing as she lay back on my bed.

“Then HELP me,” I yelled turning to her angrily.

I didn’t mean to snap, but I was starting to get stressed about the date. This whole surprise thing never works out well.

Heather stood from by bed and flipped her hair over her shoulder as she walked into my closet.

“Here,” she said, pulling a red blouse of a hanger.

“This really?” I asked, holding the cloth in my hands.

“Yeah with your black jeans it could be casual or fancy,” she said, shrugging.

“You’re a genius, I love you,” I said, pulling her into a hug.

“I know,” she replied hugging me back.

I pulled on the shirt and walked to the bathroom, doing my hair and makeup.

Just as I finished, the doorbell downstairs rang.

“Shit,” I murmured, dashing out of the bathroom and grabbing my purse.

“Don’t have too much fun,” Heather called out, smiling at me.

I rolled my eyes at her, running down the stairs.

I placed my hand on the doorknob, letting out a held in breath. I twisted the door, opening it to reveal Luke standing on my porch.

He was wearing a flannel button up and jeans, so we were obviously doing something casual.

He smiled at me, and handed me a bouquet of flowers.

“Wow flowers Hemmings, and they say chivalry is dead,” I said, smiling at him.

“You look nice,” Luke said, gesturing to my outfit.

“So do you, should we go?” I asked, stepping outside and shutting my door.

“Yeah,” Luke said, running over to his car and opening my door. I smiled at him as I sat into the cool plush leather.  Luke dashed around the front of the car, opening the door on his side and stepping in.

He put the key in the ignition and smiled at me.

“So now will you tell me where we’re going?” I asked, raising one eyebrow.

“Not yet Banks,” he responded as he sped down my street
