“Holy shit Zoey!” Luke screamed into the phone.

“What Luke,” I responded, rubbing my eyes.

“I completely forgot to do something for your birthday!” he said.

“Luke, that was months ago I don’t really care,” I sighed, rolling over in my bed.

“I’m a bad boyfriend, what kind of boyfriend forgets his girlfriends birthday?” he rambled into the phone.

“Luke you’re not a bad boyfriend, now can you let me go back to sleep, because it’s 4:00 in the morning,” I said.

“Okay, I’ll let you go back to sleep, but I’m going to be there at noon so I can try and make it up to you,” he said.

“All right babe, nothing too big though,” I sighed.

“Love you,” he said.

“I love you too,” I replied, hanging up the phone and shut my eyes.

I pulled on my sweatshirt and met Luke outside, jumping into his car.

“Happy very late birthday,” Luke smiled, leaning in and kissing me on the cheek.

“Thanks Luke, so what do you have planned?” I asked.

“Well I figured you didn’t really want to do anything big, so I just thought go to the mall and watch a movie, then come back to mine,” he said, leaving my driveway.

“That sounds great, I really didn’t want this too be a big deal,” I laughed, turning on the car radio.

“Oh come on Banks, you don’t turn 18 twice very often,” Luke laughed.

“True, true,” I laughed, looking out the window.

We pulled up to the mall and entered hand in hand, Luke rambling about something he saw on the news the previous night.

“Babe, not that I don’t love how excited you are about whatever this is, but I don’t really care,” I laughed, patting his arm.

“Sorry,” he laughed, kissing the top of my head. “So what do you want to watch?” he asked.

“A horror movie, definitely,” I said, tugging him towards the theater.

“Horror movie it is then,” he smiled, buying tickets for the movie.

We bought giant tubs of popcorn and a box of Milk Dud’s, then walked into the movie. I sat down and pulled my feet under me, opening the package of candy.

After ten minutes of commercials, the movie started and I immediately regretted my decision to see this movie. Weird paranormal activities started happening within the first fifteen minutes, and I was terrified. Every time there was a loud random noise I jumped so much that I would spill a little popcorn. I was now clutching onto Luke’s hand, digging my nails into his hand.

“Babe, loosen your iron grip please, I think you’re going to draw some blood,” he whispered in my ear.

I was about to apologies then the ghost popped up on the screen and I let out a scream. I grabbed onto Luke’s sweater and buried my face in it.

“It’s okay Zoey,” Luke whispered to me, chuckling slightly as he rubbed my back.

The movie finally faded to black, and I still sat wrapped around Luke, shaking slightly.

“Come on scardey cat,” Luke said, pulling me up and walking out of the theater.

“That’s it, I am never sleeping again,” I said, still clinging to Luke.

“You were the one that wanted to watch it!” Luke laughed.

“Well never again are we listening to me,” I responded, heading back to Luke’s car.

The rich smell of tomato sauce filled the air as I took a deep breath. We were now back at Luke’s house, where he had insisted on cooking me dinner. While I sat on his couch watching re-runs of American Horror Story, Luke had been cooking in the kitchen for two hours. Every time I went in to try and help him, he just shooed me away.

“It’s ready!” he called excitedly from the kitchen.

I stood from the couch and rushed into the kitchen, smiling at him. The small dinner table was covered with a red tablecloth and two candles in the middle.

“Luke, this is so sweet!” I said, kissing him quickly on the lips.

“I just hope the food tastes okay…” he said, pulling out my chair so that I could sit down.

Luke then placed a steaming bowl of spaghetti in front of me, adding a piece of garlic bread to the corner of the bowl. He sat down across from me, placing his own food in front of him.

I took a bite of the food and smiled at him, his nervous expression fading slightly.

“Luke, this is so good. Thank you,” I said to him.

“I just… you know… wanted to show you how much a cared about you, but honestly actually cooking something is a lot more effort then I expected,” he sighed, taking a bite of his piece of garlic bread.

☆☆☆

After dinner, we watched three different movies, all-varying in quality. It was now around midnight, and I was curled up on Luke’s bed.

“You should head back to your house, isn’t your mom going to be wondering where you are?” Luke asked, turning to face me.

“Nope, I told her I was spending the night at Heather’s,” I smiled.

“Oh so you planned on staying the night? Someone’s getting a little cocky,” he smirked.

“I knew you can’t say no to me,” I said, kissing him on the nose.

“You know me too well Banks. I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted,” he said, standing from his bed.

“So am I,” I yawned, stretching out.

Luke then pulled off his jeans, stepping out of them and tossing them in the corner of his room. He then pulled of his black tee shirt and threw it to me.

“Thanks,” I said, standing from his bed.

Luke was still looking at me as I pulled off my jeans and my shirt, leaving me in just my bra and underwear.

“Um Luke, could you turn around?” I said, my face flushing.

“Why? It’s not like I haven’t seen your boobs before,” he smirked.

“Fine, but don’t be pervy about this,” I sighed, quickly removing my bra and pulling on his shirt.

“Woot! Woot!” Luke called from the bed when I was exposed for the brief amount of time.

“Shut up loser,” I said, slipping into bed with him.

Luke turned off the light and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close.

“Thank you for today Luke,” I whispered, looking up at him.

“It was the least I could have done,” he said, leaning down and pressing his lips to mine.

“Night Lucas,” I said, snuggling into his chest.

“Night Banks,” he replied.
