“So are you and Luke like together together?” Heather asked, leaning in closer to me.
“First you sound like a twelve year old. Second I don’t know we haven’t discussed it,” I said, wiggling uncomfortably in my chair.
To be honest I didn’t know what Luke and I were, ‘officially’. I had never been in an actual relationship, I don’t count the ‘boyfriend’ I had in seventh grade for three days. I don’t know how these things work, when do people actually become ‘official’. It had been a few weeks since Luke had first kissed me, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. But, we hadn’t discussed anything. I liked Luke, I really did, but at the same time I was nervous about being someone’s girlfriend.
“Well here comes your not-boyfriend now,” Heather said raising her eyebrows.
I turned my head and was greeted by Luke walking up to me, a smile spreading on both of our faces.
“Hey,” Luke said, leaning in and kissing me on the cheek.
“Hey,” I said, moving by bag from the seat next to me so Luke could sit down.
“So what were you two discussing so seriously?” Luke asked.
I looked to Heather, hoping she could make something up. Lying was never one of my specialties.
“Oh I was just asked Zoey over here if she could get Ashton to hook up with me,” Heather said, smirking at me.
“I’ll see what I can do,” Luke laughed.

I was sitting in English, tapping my pencil. I was trying to listen to my English teacher’s lecture about 1984 but I just couldn’t focus. I had this weird anxious, feeling and I didn’t know what to do. I think I had to do with Evan sitting directly behind me. I felt like I was being watched by a hungry hawk, and I was his prey. He usually sits in the back of the class with his other loser friends, typically talking about who ever they hooked up with over the weekend. But today, he sat right behind me, smirking as he slid into his chair.
I pretended not to care when really it put me on edge. I hate that Evan can make me so uneasy, but there’s nothing I can do about it. Every so often, Evan would lean forward and tug on my hair, trying to get my attention. I would just ignore him, keeping my head forward as my pulse would race with anger. Finally the bell rang, and class was over. I hastily packed my bag, avoiding eye contact with Evan as I was leaving. I walked over to my locker, noticing Luke wasn’t leaning against it like he usually was. He must have stayed extra in class or something, which he sometimes does to butter up to a teacher. I opened my locker, pulling my books out and sticking them into my bag.
My head was down looking at my bag when my locker was slammed shut. I looked up smiling, expecting to be greeted by Luke’s calm blue eyes. Instead I was greeted with Evans cold brown ones, my smile turning down when our eyes locked. I started to walk away but he grabbed my wrist and slammed me against my locker. I winced at his iron grip around my wrist, feeling where the bruises would be formed.
“So I hear you and Hemmings have gotten pretty friendly,” he breathed, his face getting closer to mine.
“That is what this is about?” I scoffed shaking my head.
“So you’re willing to fuck him and not me? That’s a low blow Banks even from you,” he hissed, twisting my wrist more.
I scoffed at his remark, rolling my eyes. He saw my reaction and scowled, his eyes narrowing.
His hands were ice cold, unlike Luke’s, which were warm and inviting.
“Get over it Evan, please just let it go,” I said squirming, trying to get away from his grip.
I looked around and no one was even paying attention. Everyone was just walking away, looking down at their phones or laughing with their friends.
Evan just tightened his grip, pushing me harder against my locker.
“Just let me go, please I’m sorry,” I whimpered as I started to cry.
“Now you know never to fuck with me, ever,” he said smirking.
“Get your fucking hands off my girlfriend or I swear to God I will kill you,” I heard a voice say behind Evan.
I recognized that voice anywhere, it was Luke.
