An Unexpected Love

Chapter 5

Reids POV

Later that day I decided that I would go to Cathy's house to see the kids.

I parked about a couple houses away from her house and picked up some Chinese take out on the way here. As I was about to ring the doorbell I can just hear yelling coming from the inside. 

"Cathy, I want him gone!" Micah yells

"He's the father of my children! He just got back into my kid's lives, and you're not going to take their father away from them!"

"He just humiliated me in front of everyone you work with!"

"You did that all on your own, don't start playing the victim Micah"

"They don't even call me "Dad"

"Micah I'm sorry, you need to give the kids time."

"But I want to have kids calling me "dad or "daddy"

"I know it's hard honey, but as I said you just have to wait"

"But I'm tired of waiting, or unless..."

"Unless what?"

"What if we made a baby?"

"What? Micah, we're not even married yet and you want to start having children now?"

"The wedding is another month, why wait til the honeymoon to start having kids when we can start right now"

"Micah, I don't want to have another baby right now"

"When then?" 

"Micah, I don't know, maybe in a couple more years?"

"No, I want to start now!"

"Micah, stop please!"

"Micah, you're hurting me"

"Micah get off of me!"

"Cathy, I'm so sorry, I don't know what came over me!

"Get out! Now"

I hear foot steps coming to the door and I start to panic. I was looking around to find anywhere to hide and so I did the next best thing, I had the food behind a flower pot and jumped into some bushes. 

I hear the door open and foot steps walking away getting fainter and fainter until I heard a car engine start up.

I get up from the bush, covered in a bunch of leaves, I try to brush off any leaves that were on me. I pick up the Chinese food from the floor and rang the door bell.

"Micah I said......" Cathy says as she opens the door

"Spencer" she says in such relief

"Are you okay?" I ask

I see the tears form in her eyes and how hurt she looks and realized I've seen this face before, i made her look like this on the night I left her. 

Without hesitation, I bring us inside and hugged her as tight as I could. She just lets everything out, crying into my shirt but I didn't care.I can't imagine what is going on with her, I just want to make everything better for her.

There was no talking. We sat on the couch as I held her in my arms. We sat there for hours and hours.

"Where are the kids?"

"They're with Penelope for the night, I knew that Micah wanted to talk about what happened earlier and I just didn't want the kids around to see it," She says

She had told me everything that had happened to her a while ago, I decided not to tell her that I was listening to the entire conversation.

"Why do you want to wait?" I ask her

"I actually want to have another baby right now, but  Micah is not father material. I've seen him with other babies and he doesn't seem to be fully committed to this whole father thing. I think he wants a baby so he can show him/her off and not for actually wanting to be a father."

"Why are you with him?" I ask

"When you left me, I was completely different, I wasn't myself. But I had twins to take care of, so I put all of my emotions to the side and focused on them and they made me happy. And when I met Micah, he made me feel wanted all over again. He made me feel loved. He would shower me with compliments and gifts and gosh, it felt so good to be noticed again."

"Cathy...."

"No, Spencer, I understand why you left"

"But leaving you was the biggest regret"

"Spencer, I....."

"What the hell is this?" Micah says walking through the door

"Micah, what are you doing here?" Cathy asks

"I'm here to get my clothes for work tomorrow! And now I see why you wanted me out of the house" 

"Micah you're being ridiculous!"

"You'll sleep with him but not me?" He asks

"Micah!"

"I've waited 2 years Cathy, and still nothing, You say you're not ready but once your ex-fiance comes back, you'll spread your legs wide open!"

She just slaps Micah across the face.

"If you're just in this relationship for the sex, then I don't want to be in this with you!"

"Cathy, of course, I'm not in it for the sex, you mean much more than that to me, I care about you, unlike this guy. He left you at the altar, he left you to raise your kids all by yourself, he never loved you, but what I have for you is real, I won't leave you."

"I loved her and I still love her. Yes, I left her at the altar, but if I didn't she would've been killed. If I didn't leave her to move to another country for 5 years, she would've been killed. Yes, i hurt her badly, but I'm sorry being selfish for loving her so much that couldn't let her die. If she had died I would've never forgiven myself. I knew she was strong and I knew she could do this on her own without me. I would've taken a thousand bullets into my chest for her. I would have done anything for her because I love her. I love you Cathy" I say as I tear up

"Spencer I........" Cathy says as she was cut off by a loud sound

It was a gun shot.
