An Unexpected Love

Chapter 36

Reid's POV

We got home from the hospital and I had wheel Cathy in a wheelchair to the house. She was holding the twins in her hands.

"Home sweet home" Cathy says

"Are you feeling okay?" I ask

"Yeah I'm fine, I'm just a little soar"

"Here let me get Alice" I say as I grab my little daughter

We walk into the house and carry on through out the day. Then all of a sudden the door bell rang and we weren't expecting anyone.

I go and get it while Cathy was in the kitchen making dinner.

I open the door and to my surprise it was Cathy's parents.

"Hi!!! It's soo good to see you!" Cathy's mom practically yells at me

"Hi" I say surprised as I'm being attacked my her parents

"Mom? Dad? What are you guys doing here?" Cathy says surprised

They practically tackled Cathy.

"Where are my two grandchildren?" Her mom asked

"They are upstairs in their room sleeping" Cathy says

"I need to see them" her mom demands

We a go upstairs into the babies room. They are both fast asleep.

We all went back back downstairs to not disturb the kids. So we ate dinner. Then we heard the door bell ring.

"I've got guys" Cathy says

Cathy goes and gets the door.

"Mom. Dad. Come here please." Cathy calls out to us from the living room

We all get up from our chairs and make our way to the living room. When we got there, there was a guy that looked so familiar.

"Daniel?" Cathy's mother says

"Hi mom" he says

Her mother runs up to him tears, while Cathy goes back into the kitchen and set up another plate for him.

We all went back to eat dinner. And there were stories going around the table and Cathy seemed distant from the conversation.

"When did you get out of the military Daniel?" I asked

"About 3 years ago" he says

"How long have you been in the military?"

"7 years. The military was hard work and I needed to settle down. So I quit and now I live in Chicago, Illinois."

"Well that's good" I say

Then we heard the baby monitor and both the babies were crying. So Cathy's parents went to go take care of them.

Cathy decided to clean up.

"How have you been sis?" Daniel asks Cathy

"I've been good."

"Congrats on the twins" he says

"Thank you"

"You know you guys should visit Chicago" he suggests

"Are you seriously going to tell me that and think that I would be like mom and act like everything is okay with me?" She yells at him

"I know I'm in no position to talk but I was messed up, I didn't know my ways and I'm sorry"

"Sorry? You think a simple sorry is good enough? You left us and never came back. We didn't know whether you would come back or if you ended up dead Daniel"

"Cathy please, he just needed time to himself" I say to her

"You know Daniel a simple call or letter wouldve been fine, but no. You decided to be secretive for 10 years."

We all sat there silent

"And you know when you left, I had to take care of mom and dad. I was 20 and I was still in college. And when I heard you left for the military, I had to leave the college I was in, in New York and move back with mom and dad. You knew how important that school was for me."

"Cathy" her mom comes into the room

Cathy just looks at her and then at Daniel. She wipes her tear from her eyes and goes upstairs. I let Cathy's parents stay in the guest room and Daniel stay in the living room.
