An Unexpected Love (Rin Matsuoka X Reader)

Confessions

"Rin, please come back!" You begged.

Rin didn't answer. He didn't even acknowledge you when you followed him outside.

"I know you're mad! Everyone was picking on yo-"

"Do you like Sosuke?" He interrupted.

Wait? Do you like Sosuke? What is he talking about...

Rin stopped on the last set of steps the two of you were on. You stopped at the top of the pavement stairs.

"What do you mean?"

"Sorry, forget I said that." He answered.

His body was facing towards you, but he stared blankly out at the dark sky hovering over the ocean ahead. You couldn't tell what he mean't since you couldn't make out his facial expressions.

"Well, of course! He's a trusting friend and is always there to help out whenever anyone needs it! How can I not like him?"

"You're slower than I thought."

Your nose crinkled up with annoyance.

"What do you mean! You asked if I liked Sosuke and I answered!"

Suddenly, Rin reached up and took your wrist in his hand. He wasn't looking out at the horizon anymore. He was looking at you straight in the eye.

You felt your breath stop. Your body began to tremble as you felt his grip tighten. You could feel your face becoming warm and splotchy.

"(Y/N), I like you."

You didn't take in what he said right away.

He tugged you closer towards him with a pull of his arm. It was hard to see now, since the night was growing darker, but you could still see his sparkling maroon eyes meeting yours.

"Rin, w-what are y-you talking about?" You stuttered, feeling uncomfortable by how close the two of you were.

"I've had feelings for you for awhile now. I know you have felt something towards me at least once."

What? I've never thought of him that way... have I?

You didn't know what to say.

But it made sense with how you were feeling all this time and you hadn't realized it till now.

"I-I-"

"I found them!" You heard Nagisa's squeaky voice yell from behind you.

You quickly pulled away from Rins grasp and turned around to see everyone.

"What were you two doing just there?" Gou asked, raising an eyebrow.

Your face was plastered with embarrassment, but Nagisa whipped past you in time to ensure nobody noticed.

He wrapped his arms around Rin and caressed him.

"I'm sorry, Rin! I'll think before I speak from now on! Don't bite me with your shark teeth!"

"Shark teeth!" Rin growled.

You felt at ease that Rin was joking around.

You looked up at Gou who was eyeing you with a smirk. She knew what had just happened.

"Shit!" Rei howled, breaking the gaze between you and Gou. "I forgot to turn the oven off!"

"No, the food!" Nagisa yelped.

"Idiot!" Rei snorted, clocking him on the forehead. "It's not the food you should be worried about, it's whether the house will burn down!"

Nagisa skipped back past you and everyone started scurrying back to the house.

Gou stood at the top of the steps, awaiting for you and Rin.

Gou winked at you both.

You sprinted up the steps without looking back at him, hiding your rosy cheeks as you passed Gou.

You didn't know how to take all of this in, but at the same time you knew all along that the feelings were mutual.

Time Skip

"It's looks delicious!" Nagisa chimed.

You stared down at the bowl of mixed vegetables, steamed rice and glazed meat.

Your appetite has disappeared. You felt sick to your stomach with all the thoughts in your mind.

Gou shuffled next to you while the other boys started squabbling over who got the last piece of meat left in the pan.

"Did you actually not realize till now how he felt about you?" She laughed.

You looked at her with a flat expression, then started playing with your chopsticks, because you didn't know how to react.

"I didn't want to believe it..."

"You didn't want to believe what? His feelings towards you or your feelings towards him?"

You dropped your chopsticks and raised your eyes at her.

"W-what! I told you b-before t-that's not it!"

"(Y/N), stop denying it!" She chuckled. "Why can't you just admit it?"

You were about to speak, but Gou's loud voice blocked your own.

"Stop it! Why are throwing the vegetables!" Gou screamed.

You sat in silence and answered her question in your head.

I'm scared.
