"Is someone hurt?" Rin asked, eyes widening.

"Makoto slipped on the deck and hurt his ankle," Nagisa explained. "We need you take his place, (Y/N)! The race is starting soon!"

Your muscles became rigid and you let out a quick bark of laughter.

"Come on, (Y/N)! You have to get suited up!" Rin exclaimed, grasping your wrist and throwing you out of your daze.

But I need to tell you I like you! Why is this happening now!

You, Rin and Nagisa met up with everyone else. Makoto was currently sitting on a bench with his ankle raised and an ice pack pressed against it.

"(Y/N), you'll be filling in for me." Makoto smiled, trying to hide his disappointment.

"You've got this, (Y/N)!" Nagisa cheered.

Rin let go of your wrist and stared you in the eye.

"Tell me what you have to say later... I'll see you at the starting blocks." He spoke, trailing away to his team.

W-wait...

Gou suddenly pushed you into the changing room next to the bench Makoto was resting on.

"Get changed now!" She yelled, clearly frazzled by the sudden change of events. "Don't think about him right now, focus on the team!"

You stood in the changing room, engulfed with shock.

She's right. I have to focus on the team right now. I can save Rin for later.

You quickly stripped off your clothes and put on your swimsuit. You tied your hair into a tight braid and shoved it into your swim cap. You grabbed your goggles and flew out of the change room.

Haru, Nagisa and Rei were all stretching at the edge of the pool.

"Did you tell him?" Makoto asked, before you walked off to join the others. "Nagisa told us he interrupted you and Rin having a conversation."

"Tell him what?" You questioned, looking down at Makoto and slipping your goggles over your swim cap.

"(Y/N), you know what I mean."

You looked into Makoto's bright green eyes with a smile.

"I'm will... after we win!"

He laughed, then you went off to meet up with the rest of the boys.

You started stretching your legs to ensure your kick at the start was powerful.

"Backstroke swimmers!" The announcer declared into the speakers. "Take your positions!"

"Good luck, (Y/N)! We know you can do it!" Nagisa beamed, giving you a thumbs up.

"You'll do amazing." Rei assured.

Haru stood in silence and nodded.

You slipped into the pool and held onto the metal bars of the starting block to prepare to kick off.

You then noticed Rin smirking at you from the deck. You looked at him with an expression of determination.

I'm going to beat you, idiot.

"On your mark!"

You felt adrenaline rush into you and your breath steadying.

The starting gun was fired making you kick off the wall and dive backwards into your backstroke.

You thrusted yourself forwards on your back and picked up speed until you hit the opposite wall to return to the starting block.

You didn't even pay attention to the swimmers beside you. You were enthralled in the competition and the energy that was rising within you.

You used this to swim as fast as you could until you reached your arm out to hit the wall, signalling Nagisa to dive off the starting block.

You lifted yourself from the water, heaving for air. You put your hands on your knees and tried to slow down your heartbeat.

You knew the race was still going on, but your anxiety made you not want to watch.

You felt a sensation of relief as you straightened your posture, keeping your eyes to the ground.

You suddenly could only think about him.

I haven't felt this certain about someone ever. I need to tell him... now.

You brought your attention back to the race just as Rin and Haru dove into the water.

Your heart beat sped up as you watched him glide through the water. You clenched your fists together awaiting for his return.

You shut your eyes, because you couldn't stand to watch as they were neck and neck. You then heard the crowd erupt with cheers.

You didn't even care at this point about the standings.

You shot your eyes open and saw Rin slipping off his goggles and swim cap. He was looking at the scoreboard and gliding his fingers through his damp hair to get it out of his eyes.

You suddenly, without hesitation, jumped into the water and swam towards the lane he was in.

He locked eyes with you and started laughing.

"(Y/N), what the hell are you doing?"

You threw your body at him, making him grab your waist. You stared at his bulging red eyes and grabbed his cheeks.

"Rin, I like you... I really do."

Rin gaped at your with shock, but his face relaxed and he pulled your loose hairs from your braid behind your ears.

He pulled you closer to himself and kissed you on the lips.

You were confused for a moment, but reciprocated the motion. You felt heat rush to your cheeks and a tingling sensation in your stomach.

He then released you and grinned at you.

"Good timing." He snickered.

You hadn't realized what you had done till now.

Everyone was staring at you both, either laughing or cheering.

You covered your face with the palms of your hands, trying to hide your embarrassment.

"I knew you had it in you!" Gou yelled from the bleachers.

"(Y/N) and Rin are finally together!" Nagisa screamed. "I'm going to cry!"

You giggled at his reaction and ignored the crowd, putting all your focus on him.

You wrapped your arms over his shoulders and smirked at him.

"I noticed the scoreboard... how do you feel?" You sneakily commented.

"Shut up, dumbass!" He exclaimed, splashing water at you. "I'll beat you next time!"

You then splashed him in return and embraced him once more.

"What have you done to me, (Y/N)?"

"I think I'm the one who should be saying that, idiot."
