Chapter 10: A Family Affair

Arian POV
    That Monday morning I rolled over and cuddled into August's chest. He had convinced me to stay longer than the weekend. He stirred in his sleep and said "always cuddlin and shit"  "Yeap you're always warm bae" he smiled with his eyes closed and pulled me tighter to him.
     He was making it extremely hard for me to get up and get ready for work. "I have to get up stop making this bed feel so good." "Damn girl you need to go in that bathroom and wash yo mouth!" He said while pushing my head away. I stale faced him and said "don't sit there and act like your breath don't smell like you need to flush your throat!"  
         He laughed and said "how about we both get our stank ass mouths in that bathroom and brush our teeth?" "No kiss me first so I know it's real" "I'm sorry baybeh, but this shit we got goin is just gone have to be fake as hell cause you not putting that dirty mouth on me!" He said getting out the bed. "I see how it is." "Stop being spoiled" he said to me.
         He continued to stare at me "fine you know I can't say no to you" he said leaning in "nah it's ok I just wanted to know you'd give me my way, my work here is done." I said laughing as I headed towards the bathroom. After we got finished getting ready I headed to work and so did he.
          I got to work and went looking for Nina immediately. "Hey girl" "hey hey hey!" She said enthusiastically. She always was a morning person. "We need to talk" "oh god what happened?" I told her everything that happened at family dinner and about me having to bring August this Friday. "Your brothers just don't know how to act do they? Don't they know you're grown?" "Apparently not. Will you do me a favor?" "Yeah anything what's up?" "Will you come this Friday too?" "Girl you know I'm iggin your oldest brother right now, it's gonna be hard to do that if I'm sharing the same table as him" "you won't even have to speak to him I'll run interference all night. Please say yes" I said begging her "fine I'll be there. "Thank you!" "Uhm hmm you owe me!"

Friday night Dinner
August POV
         We were making our way to Arian's parent's house and I could tell she was super nervous. I reached over and put my hand on her thigh and asked "baybeh you ok?" "Yeah I'm fine but I'll be better once this night is over" "it ain't gone be that bad I promise. It's gonna be fine."
         We finally arrived and I walked around and opened her door and helped her out. Nina had just arrived as well. "Oh thank god you're here" Arian said rushing over to her. "Girl calm down remember what I said you're a grown woman and you can see whom ever you please" "you're right, you are absolutely right. I'm about to go in here and make this family dinner my bitch!" "Watch yo mouth!" I said to her "babe you're ruining my hype." Me and Nina busted out laughing at her. "You so cute" I said pecking her lips "now can we go in please" she took a deep breath and said "yeah let's go"

Arian POV
       We walked up to the door and rung the doorbell. The door opened and my dad stood there "Hi daddy" I said "Hi sweetheart. Hey Nina" "hey Mr.D" "daddy this is August" "August this is my dad Derrick Grey" they shook hands and August said "how are ya Mr.Grey?" "I'm doing good how are you?" "I'm doing good" we stood there awkwardly in the door for a few minutes, "soooo are you gonna let us in daddy or are we eating on the porch?" He finally stepped to the side and let us all in.
        We made our way to the family room and there stood all 5 of my brothers looking like they were ready to go to war.  None of them spoke they all just stood there staring at him. Michael said "what's good Aug? So you the one dating my sister?" "What's good Mike and yeah that would be me" August replied not breaking eye contact with any of them. I was shocked that he knew my brother Michael.
"Let's eat" my mother said from the doorway. I sighed in relief. She walked up to August and introduced herself and then hugged him. I was happy atleast someone was acting reasonable in this group. I pulled August to the dining area and we sat down I made sure there wasn't a space beside Nina for Michael to occupy. He looked pissed about it, but he'd get over it.
         Everything was going so well until I said "daddy will you pass me the salt" August and my dad reached for the salt at the exact same time and all my brothers took note.
          Of course it was Blake who had something to say "she only got one daddy bruh and he ain't you" he said frowning at August. August chuckled a little "it was an honest mistake BRUH, chill" my brother looked like he was ready to kill someone namely the man sitting to the right of me.
           "Let's change the subject please." I said. "Nina how has your new guy been treating you" before she could answer Michael piped in "glad to see you ain't got no hickeys tonight Arian. Oh and Aug I know how much ya ass love dessert, moms made up something real nice tonight, so my sister not on the menu ya feel me?"
          "nah I don't feel you Mike cause I always save room for Arian, just can't seem to get enough" August said calmly while staring my brother down. "Michael that's none of your business" I said "so please change the subject" I said as I squeezed August's thigh under the table.
          Nina finally spoke up and said "well my new guy is great thanks for asking Arian. Maybe we could double date with you and August one night" Michael scoffed "yeah he so fuckin great you ignoring people who been in your life forever" "Michael language" my mama said. "Well I wouldn't be ignoring people who have been in my life forever if people who've been in my life forever hadn't been ignoring me and my feelings. You punk ass bitch!" Nina said slamming her fork into her plate. Everyone's eyes got wide and they looked at Michael.
Jackson started a slow clap "it is about time beautiful, cause this nigga just was not getting the hint." He then fell out laughing "Jackson!" My dad yellled at him. 
       "What it's the truth. Now he wants to bitch and moan cause she found someone who notices her, Nina is like a little sister to us all and we just stood back while he walked all on her feelings" he then raised his glass and said "I salute you for finding your happiness and not waiting on fools to get they head out they ass"
            To get the attention off of himself Michael smoothly said "Arian while you sitting here with this nigga he ain't nothing but a blabber mouth. August told me he had you for dessert a while back. That's the type of nigga you want in your life? The kind running round telling your personal business?" And now the heat was on. "Alright this nigga bout to catch this fade" Blake said standing up. 
        August stood up too and said "nigga it ain't nothin fa me. we can take this outside! I'll beat yo ass and be back in hea in time fa dessert! Cause like Michael's snitching ass mentioned, I fucks wit dessert." "Stop!" I screamed "sit down everyone" "Arian you just need to let us pick the man for you" Michael said.
          August scoffed "yeah cause y'all niggas did such a stand up job the last time right?" He said with a frown on his face. "I'm leaving." I said while throwing my napkin on the table and getting up "Arian sweetie please don't leave." "August I'll meet you at the car" he kissed my cheek and said "aight baybeh" he then walked over to my mama and said "I apologize fa disrespectin yo home wit my foul language" she smiled at him and said "I apologize for my sons' behavior" he then walked out the house.
          I turned to my family and looked at all of them and said "I bought this man here for you all to meet him, not to try and start fights or get into my personal business. I have never been so humiliated and embarrassed by my families actions then I was tonight." My voice cracked "this is the first man that I've dated since the day I was practically left at the altar, and I thought you all would be happy for me, but I guess that's just too much to ask."
          A tear rolled down my cheek and my brothers started towards me, but I put up my hand and said "no, I'm done. I won't be at family dinners for awhile. I need a break." With that I walked out of the house, jumped in the truck with August and left.
Nina POV
         I walked out of the house after saying bye to everyone, when I felt someone grab my hand. I turned and it was Michael "what do you want?! What you pulled in there tonight was an asshole move, and you should be ashamed of yourself!" I said rolling my eyes "I know! I don't even give a fuck that she dating Aug, he a good dude I'm just pissed in general aight!" He yelled back at me. I looked at him and said "why?" He hesitated before answering "I don't like that your dating some other dude" "if you don't like it cuff me then" he pulled me to him and kissed me like I had always dreamed he would "damn" we both said at the same time "just give me a chance Nina. I can prove to you that I'm better than him." Little did he know I already knew he was. "I'll think about it" I said as I jumped in my car and sped off.
