Irmina's POV

I just graduated from the training corps in the top 10, along with a few friends I managed to make, but we still need to choose which regiment we want to take part in. My closest friend is Eren, just like how Armin and Mikasa are close to him. We four, have decided to do this together.

"Irmina." I looked up from my book to see Eren at the door to the room that I share with the other girls. He walked towards me and stood beside me.

"You coming to mess hall? I haven't seen you eat all day." He asked with concern.

"Yeah, I'll go with you right now." I hid my book under my pillow and walked with Eren to mess hall. As we approached where everyone was gathered, I could hear the usual, loud conversations. That made me frown. I don't know how long we'll still be able to laugh after we lose lives. We're all going to need to learn to accept the fact that this is part of the job.

"Maier! You're finally here!" Hanji shouted from the superiors' table. Captain Levi glared at her.

"She's late, stupid." He gulped his drink down before getting up and leaving the mess hall.

Oh, that's right. Hanji wanted to meet the new trainees but didn't want to wait until we graduated and came here. She dragged along Captain Levi, too. I don't know why she wants to see us or how she was able to convince Captain Levi to go with her. Don't they have expeditions to go on? They've been here for two days now and Hanji doesn't even look like she's ready to leave...Fucking weird. What are they not telling us?

I sat between Armin and Eren while Mikasa sat next to Eren. I began to nibble on my stale bread to crumbs and swallowed it with water to soften it. It's a hack I came up with myself, I guess.

"Mina?" Armin's soft voice called.

"Yes?"

"You're not afraid of what's gonna happen?" His blue eyes twinkled.

"What do you mean?"

"I don't want to die...I don't want to see any of you die..."

"Armin, snap out of it. We're not gonna die. But you have to make that happen. So just make sure you know what you're doing when we get out of these walls."

"I understand."

***
We finished supper and headed to our rooms. I walked passed Captain's office where he left the door cracked open. I could see him leaning back on his chair and staring at the ceiling. What is he thinking about? I don't think anyone could ever guess. He always has that bored expression on his face.

He turns his head to find me staring at him. It took me a moment to process that, then I hurriedly walked to my room. I changed into my pajamas which consisted of a white button-up shirt and a light pink skirt. I lied down, the world silent except for the loud snoring Sasha was making. I sighed, and closed my eyes.

Sorry that this chapter was so short, don't worry, the rest will get longer. What do you think of the story so far? I'm gonna try and make their romance emerge slowly because I've ran into stories that went way too fast and it ruined the story for me. I also wrote a Justin Bieber book if you're a Belieber like me ahah. Don't forget to vote if you enjoyed this!
