Eren's POV
I heard the door to the girl's barracks squeak open, and I paused my late night thoughts to see who it was.
A girl of small height was slowly walking to go outside. I easily found out that it was Irmina. I followed her out, and went to walk with her.
"You can't sleep either, huh?" I asked her.
"Yeah..." I saw that she was trying to figure something out. Knowing Irmina for this long has given me the gift to know how she feels.
"What's on your mind?"
"I don't know... Things I don't remember happening are flowing through my head..." She began playing with the gold bracelet on her left wrist, and her face looked as if she was about to cry.
A tear fell down her cheek, then more poured out of her eyes. She stopped walking and tried wiping her tears away. She sobbed, but I could tell she tried to suppress it.
"Mina?" I asked. "ほら、おいで。" I pulled her in for a hug, and tried comforting her by rubbing her back. "What's wrong?"
[hora, oide. ~ here, come here.]
"I m-miss my fa-ther." She told me.
Mm.
"I don't know what happened with mine, and I don't exactly miss him." I said.
Her hand grasped onto the fabric of my shirt.
"Why wou-ld you t-tell me th-is?" She asked me through hiccups. I pulled her in tighter.
"Because my mother...a titan chewed on her like she didn't matter. I miss my mother just like you miss your father."
"I'm sorry, Eren."
"きにしないで。もうずっとまえのはなしだから。" I reassured. There was nothing for her to be sorry for.
[kini shinaide. Mou zutto mae no hanashi dakara ~ Don't worry about it. It's already in the past.]
"But still...the fact that you might be an orphan makes me think that my situation isn't as bad." Her watering eyes looked up at me.
"Then I have done my job to make you feel less upset." I gave toothless smile, and she reacted by wrapping her arms around my neck, resting her head under my chin.
"ありがとう、エレン。" She whispered.
[arigatou, Eren. ~ thank you, Eren.]
"おまえには、いつでもいいよ。" I told her. Irmina, along with Armin and Mikasa, is my only family. I've known Armin and Mikasa longer, but Irmina was smaller than me, emotionally, unlike Mikasa. So I felt like I needed to protect her.
[omae ni wa, itsudemo iiyo ~ for you, anytime.]
I'll always be there for Irmina, even when she doesn't need me.
I think I love her. ちがう。もちろんともだちとしてすき。でも、ほんとに、あい かも。。。
