Chapter Six

Irmina's POV

Garrison had us cornered, threatening to end Eren's life along with Mikasa, Armin, and me. But we stood together. We made it trough training together, we'll get through this together as well.

"Answer this incorrectly, and all of you will perish! I advise you to choose carefully. Are you human or titan?!" Captain Kitz's voice held no mercy for us.

We all looked at Eren, wondering which word will come out of his mouth. I saw the look on his face change.

He has decided.

"I'll ask again, human or titan?!" Captain Kitz asked for the last time.

"Human! I am human!" Everyone went silent. That's the right answer right? If he said titan, we definitely would've had a canon fire at us.

"Human...?" Captain Kitz considered the word for a moment. Then with the raise of his hand, he shouted. "Fire!" The canon was shot, and Eren grabbed all three of us.

What are you doing Eren?! We're going to die if we stay here!

I closed my eyes. This is not how I thought I'd die. I thought I'd get eaten by a titan, knowing that I have done something to help humanity. But instead, I'm being killed by my own species. This isn't honorable at all!

I peeled my eyes open, gasping at the sight. A titan skeleton surrounded us, a skinless arm extended. From the impact of the caught canon, dust clouded us.

"Eren..." I whispered.

"Two options. I could leave right now before the dust clears away, and you guys stay right here so you won't get killed for being an accomplice.

"Eren, no-" Mikasa said.

"I said I had two options, didn't I?" He cut off Mikasa before she could argue with him. "Armin, do you think you can convince them?"

Armin was given a heavy task. Armin was smart and quick to think. If anyone could convince anyone, it would be Armin and his will to protect us as a soldier.

He got up and ran through the clouds of dust and unbuckled his gear. He put his hands up to show that he was not armed, not that he was surrendering.

"He isn't the enemy of mankind!" Armin shouted to Captain Kitz and the rest of the troops.

"Begging for your lives is useless now! Everyone saw him! There's no way to prove that he isn't evil!" Captain Kitz argued.

"That's it, everyone saw him! That's the proof! We all saw how he was fighting the titans and how the titans see him as prey, just like the rest of mankind!"

Captain Kitz was silent and seemed to have been battling a decision in his head. The rest of the present Garrison members gasped and whispered to each other.

"Don't fall for their clever trap! We've seen his true form!" Captain Kitz warned.

Armin looked back at us, and Eren nodded.

Armin put his fisted, right hand on his chest, his left arm behind him. He was saluting.

"As a soldier, I swore to devote my heart to the resurrection of mankind! There is no greater glory than dying for that belief! Eren's abilities can be used against the titans and we could get back Trost District! In the final moments before my death, I beg you to permit me to explain how he could save humanity!" Armin stayed saluted the entire time and his determination amazed me. The smart, soft Armin I knew had so much dedication to humankind's and his friends' survival.
