Chapter 10.
I huffed and sat down on the grass, wet with moisture from the weather. I was exhausted from the way Tori had taught me to use all the items she just gave me. She had a nimble and petite small body which was surprisingly strong and yet quite fast.
I wondered why she hadn't joined the track team of this school in the creepy town. That is, if they even had a track team. Which I doubt, seeing the zombie like behaviour from the kids.
Tori sighed and looked at me dissaprovingly. I glanced at her and said,"What? I already have gym as my first period. I'm still not used to this."
She sighed and she flopped onto the grass as well. Tori replied,"You have to improve your stamina. You'll see what I mean when you have ghouls chasing you."
I gave her an alarmed look but she shrugged it off.
She turned towards me and said,"It doesn't matter. We can now work on your locating."
I groaned and put my head in my hands. I was tired enough. I eventually looked up and sat facing towards Tori.
Tori looked at me and said,"Now listen to what I say, and follow me to the tee. It might take a while but you'll get it soon."
I nodded as she started explaining. "Close your eyes and take deep breath. Clear everything from your mind. All you want to do is be at peace like them. Feel their yearning to be free. Feel the pain the ghosts feel to leave their loved ones. Feel."
I did exactly as she said. I didn't feel much different. I opened my eyes and sighed at her.
"It's not working!"
Tori opened her eyes and threw me an annoyed glance. "That means you're not doing it right. Keep trying."
I grumbled as I closed my eyes again. The voices which I had pushed to the back of my mind came out with full force and I could hear screaming, crying, shouting, laughter. It was confusing and my head ached. From all the sounds I concentrated one particular noise. It was sound of somebody shouting. I opened my eyes, I wasn't at the opening in the forest. I was in a room. The ceiling was broken and dust covered everything. There were broken pieces of glass on the floor. When I tried to move, I glided as though I didn't have any weight. I was graceful as I move quietly and saw my surroundings. I heard the same shouting coming for somewhere which I heard in my head and I followed the noise.
I came into a similar room but here I could see people. I hid behind the doorframe to try and catch what they were saying, when suddenly, I heard footsteps from behind me and a person passed through me. I screamed but nobody bothered to even look at me. I was invisible to these people. I walked slowly behind them and listened intently to what they were saying. There was a man who wore a fancy suit and had two henchmen behind him with tattoos. They seemed to be shouting at a frail old girl who looked no older than me, who was standing in front of two children, a boy and a girl.
"Your rent is 2 months overdue! How much longer do you think I'm going to stand this?!" The man in the fancy suit yelled at the kids.
I felt sad for them as they quivered behind their sister I assumed. They were just children. How could they possibly pay the rent?
"P-Please Mr. Brandon. Give us just one more week." The eldest stammered. She looked so weak and hungry. Where were their parents?
Mr. Brandon held up his finger to her face and spoke in a menacing tone. "Just one more. I don't care that your mother has died or the fact that your father was a drunkard. I want the money. And if I don't get it, you know what Henry can do right?"
