After the girl leaves I watch tv for awhile. I can't bring myself to put on the news though. Classes finally end and my roommate comes home. "Hey Phoebe." she says, closing the door. "Sup." I respond, stretching. "I'm going out soon. Just have to shower and change." "Where are you going?" I ask, walking into the kitchen. "Well if you must know, I'm going to a party." I look at her blankly. "Can I come?" Ava scratches her head. "I don't think that's a good idea. It's a bad scene. And you're not really the type to go either." "Come on, I have nothing else to do." I beg. She sighs. "Fine, but if you wanna leave i'm not driving you back." I smile. "I'll be out in ten minutes. Change into something a little less, uh, trashy." "Hahaha." I fake laugh.
While Ava showers, I change into kinda fancy clothes. When she comes out in similar styled clothes I sigh in relief. "I'm missing some clothes. What did you do?" "Uh...nothing." "Whatever. Let's go. And remember, you begged." We walk outside and get in her car. Most of the people I know have cars, except myself. I wouldn't even be in college if it weren't for my scholarship. "Are you okay?" Ava asks, looking at me. "Yeah, why?" "You're staring out the window like a lunatic." I look at her. "Just thinking." She nods. "We're almost there. You sure you wanna go?" "Yeah, nothing else is going on in my life. Gotta distract myself somehow." "I still don't think this is the way to do it though. This place is bad news. You wouldn't be seen dead here normally." I shrug. "My life." Ava sighs as she pulls in and unbuckles her seatbelt. "Well, we're here."
I get out of the car and follow her to the lights and music. Immediately I feel wrong about being here but I put my feelings to the side and continue on. "Be careful, Phe. Don't talk to anyone, especially if they seem suspicious. And don't go anywhere alone. Try to stay by me." We finally reach the party. There's people everywhere, dancing and messing around. The stench of alcohol fills the air. Deep down I begin to regret coming here a little tiny bit. "You're not gonna drink, are you?" I ask Ava. "I don't know. I know I shouldn't but then again, we shouldn't exactly be here either. Plus I wanted to hang out with Noah." I frown at his name. Noah was one of Jack's close friends.
We spot Noah. "Hey!" he yells to us. We walk over to him and his group of friends. "Ava. Phoebe." He bows to greet us. I see the almost empty cup in his hand. "Are you drunk?" I ask. "Yeah. You want some?" I take a small step back. "No thanks. I'm only eighteen anyway." "Buzzkill." one of his friends mutter. "How about you, Ava? You're fun." Noah says, putting his arm around her. She looks at me with sympathy and mouths 'Sorry, Phoebe.' Noah smiles. "Come on then." Ava walks away with them. I look around at all the people, really noticing how drunk they are. I take a few steps back, beginning to get a little scared. I accidently run into someone. "Hey, what's the big deal?!" they yell. "I...I'm sorry, I-" the person throws their drink at me. I'm covered in alcohol. Then the smell hits me. I walk away towards some trees, extremely nauseous. "Ugh, I stink." I mumble, trying not to puke.
I hear 'You shouldn't have come here.' in my mind. Following my instincts for once, I walk into the forest away from the party. "I'll just wait in Ava's car. Probably have to drive her back anyway." I tell myself. "Hey pretty lady." I keep walking, hoping that wasn't to me. "Hey, you wanna have fun?" I feel a hand touch my shoulder. "No, i'm leaving now." "Come one, let's have some fun. Funity fun fun." "No thanks, I really have to-" Another person puts their hand over my mouth and pulls me to the ground. I struggle to get free. The first guy smirks, walking up to me. "Please, I wanna go home." The first guy gets on top of me and I notice about five of them around me. "Get off of me." I struggle. He unzips his pants. "NO! NO! HELP ME!" I screech, hoping someone hears me. "No one's coming." the second guy says. "Hey, I call second." one of the other five says. I start to have trouble breathing and my eyes fill with tears. "Get. Off." I say in between breathes. The guy strokes my face and I start bawling. "HELP! HELP ME!" I scream in a last attempt. They all just laugh. "Jack..." I whisper.
Then I see a shadow move in the corner of my eye. Suddenly three of them are on the ground, dead. The other two try to run away and end up disappearing. The guy on top of me looks around, scared. Then he's knocked off of me. I crawl back a few feet and start rocking as I see Jack repeatedly stab the guy with a scalpel. He looks up at me and for a second he stares into my eyes as I stare into his black, tar oozing holes. Then he vanishes into the darkness.
I sigh, getting up. "Guess i'm walking home." In the first few feet I trip on a root. Limping the rest of the way, I make it back to my dorm by the time the sun is almost up. I unlock my door and fall on my bed instantly. My clock says 4:43. "I could get a few hours of sleep." I close my eyes and relax. I wake up later and see the sun shining in my room. I quickly sit up and see that my clock reads 10:02. "Shoot!" I get up, grab my backpack, and run out the door. "I can still make it to Math." I mutter, running through the halls. I stop at the math teacher's door, out of breath. I knock lightly, embarrassed that I'm late. The teacher opens the door and walks into the hallway, closing it.
"We need to talk, Miss Adams." I feel my face get hot. "I'm so sorry i'm late, I got home at like five and then slept in and-" She puts her hand up to stop me. "It's about your well being. I heard that you seem distracted in all your classes and were at a bad party last night, which you disappeared from soon after arriving." "H...how did you know that?" She chuckles. "It's my job as a teacher to make sure all my students are okay. If you want to talk, I'll always be there to listen. Now go home, I already spoke with the rest of your teachers. And please change, I can smell alcohol on you." "I don't think it's necessary for me to go home, i'd really like to go to M-" "Just go home, Phoebe." I sigh. "Okay." I put my head down in defeat and walk away. "Oh and I'm truly sorry to hear about Jack." I walk back to my dorm.
I see that Cherry girl, looking through my fridge. "What are you doing?!" I ask. "Why the hell do you have no fucking food? I thought it would be... Oh hi." "Hi." I say in a questioning tone. "And there's no food because, get ready for it...I'm broke." I basically jump on the couch. I lay down, covering my face with my arm, and say "I'm taking a nap."
